Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The Trauma Coder 2 works independently to extrapolate data from medical records for entry into the trauma registry according to regulatory guidelines. The Trauma Coder 2 assigns diagnosis and procedure codes according to ICD-10 CM/PCS and AAAM AIS coding guidelines and conventions and National Trauma Data Standards. This coder demonstrates clinical coding knowledge of complex medical and coding concepts, including trauma and injury-specific coding conventions. The Trauma Coder 2 is a resource to the trauma team for trauma coding and trauma data analysis and data validation.

Responsibilities

Accurately abstracts data elements as required.Stays current of all changes in coding conventions, regulatory guidelines, code updates and BJC coding guidance.Identifies patients who meet criteria for inclusion into the trauma registry.Maintains the trauma registry and meets the appropriate productivity standards.Develops and delivers coding education as requested. Mentors and coaches coders in coding skills. Serves as a trauma coding expert to the trauma team.
