We are hiring for the Sterile Processing Cohort Spring 2023 Class

Partnership with the St. Louis Community College and BJC HealthCare

  • Training runs April 17th - September 30th
  • Candidates must pass an HRC Assessment and be in good standing with St. Louis Community College.
  • Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Virtually, plus time to complete assignments and homework.
  • Every other Wednesday with be skills lab day at the STLCC - Forest Park Campus.
  • Individuals selected for the program will be employed as Sterile Processing Techs during training.
  • Tuition funding is provided by BJC HealthCare.
  • Minimum 1-year employment commitment to BJC HealthCare required upon completion.
  • Minimum starting pay is $16.00/hr with a promotion after you obtain your certification to a Sterile Processing Tech II.
  • Employees must complete the class with a 80% or greater, and be pass the national certification to become a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The Sterile Processing Technician performs a variety of central sterile processing functions, which include the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the operating room (OR) and other areas throughout the hospital. Required to maintain and control both sterile and non-sterile supplies, and identify and remedy equipment and process failures and hazards while maintaining the appropriate and complete records.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
  • Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
  • Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
  • Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
  • Ensures instrumentation is reassembled correctly and functioning properly.
  • Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Requirements

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification
  • Additional International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) certifications
