Overview

Centralized Telemetry, a department in which trained monitor technicians observe and analyze various heart rhythms of patients who are admitted to the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring system. Technicians monitor patients within BJH North and South, as well as, BJ West County. Constant communication with nursing staff regarding changes in rhythm status is key to patient care. Technicians will call CODES if lethal rhythms are detected for patient safety and positive outcome of patient condition

Role Purpose

Provides customer-focused telemetry monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms with an average of 48 patients per shift to ensure the prompt and accurate delivery of care vital to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, suspected arrhythmias, drug intervention per floor with need for observation, and potential of life-threatening cardiac events. Initiates code and rapid response teams for patients at risk of death or serious harm. Collaborates with health care providers to initiate, monitor and communicate findings during video monitoring of patients at risk of harm due to medical conditions. Assists with delivery and maintenance of inventory, including inventory storage, cleaning and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

Establishes and maintains proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of ECG rhythms, spo2 waveforms, and other vital signs as set by physician order that are used to monitor a patient?s overall medical condition. Conducts ongoing reviews of patient ECG rhythm, and depending on level of acuity may include blood pressure, spo2 level, respiratory rate, and Co2 level to develop a comprehensive understanding of the patient?s condition and to communicate that knowledge to nursing staff. Conducts accurate analysis and interpretation of ECG rhythms, preserving a record within the cardiac monitoring system for access by treatment team. Maintains a shift log of all phone calls made. Acts as preceptor and mentor to new monitor technicians. Provides brief, focused education to nursing staff to promote an understanding of cardiac rhythms.Establishes and maintains proficiency in operating the ECG and video monitoring system.Initiates telemetry monitoring via delivery and attachment of telemetry monitoring equipment. Maintains inventory, including storage, ordering, troubleshooting of faulty equipment, and disinfection procedures.Assists in all daily operations in a manner that facilitates the achievement of a high level of customer satisfaction and experience.Establishes and maintains the ability to float to multiple stations located within Centralized Telemetry Monitoring, including the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Telemetry distribution center.
