Purpose:

The Associate Director, Innovation Worldwide Patient Safety is a global leadership position within Business Capabilities and Innovation (BCI), Worldwide Patient Safety (WWPS). This position reports to the Head, Innovation, Partnerships and Process Optimization WWPS and is in Europe or US.

Associate Director, Innovation Worldwide Patient Safety is responsible to contribute to and execute the innovation strategy for Worldwide Patient Safety (WWPS). This individual leads initiatives to shape industry leadership with respect to the safe and informed use of BMS medicines.

The Associate Director is responsible for influencing innovation and digital strategy, both top down and bottom-up, implementing innovation and digital strategy in different functions within WWPS, supporting business process analysis and creation of reporting mechanisms generating insights and supporting determinations of safe use of products in development and on-market. This role targets to improve both operations and science of patient safety globally. Additionally, responsibilities include partnership with relevant IT colleagues, WWPS colleagues related to innovation, automation & effectiveness of pharmacovigilance business processes.

Further, the Associate Director manages the WWPS innovation funnel, from problem statement to concept development and business case approval. In this role, this individual combines design thinking and process rigor with effective leadership and relationship building. Additionally, this individual manages industry benchmarking activities used in the evaluation of pharmacovigilance policies, practices, strategies and effectiveness.

Key Activities

The individual acts a leader and pacemaker for innovation across WWPS, acts as project manager where required and collaborates with WWPS functions and other stakeholders to support further development and implementation of an end-to-end innovation process and innovation culture in WWPS.

Additionally, The Associate Director, Innovation WWPS contributes to, oversees and executes on the WWPS innovation roadmap which includes business need identification, proof of concept execution, and partnership identification to ensure WWPS scientific and operational capabilities evolve above the speed of change in the healthcare landscape.

Strategy and Planning

  • Contributes to and executes the strategic and tactical business plan for innovation & automation across WWPS

  • Plans resources, develops business cases and provides cross-functional leadership to kick off and complete projects aligned with WWPS innovation strategy

  • Identifies and materializes opportunities for innovation projects, process improvements and/or partnerships (internal and external)

  • Supports execution of innovation plans across GDD

  • Responsible for execution of initiatives led by BCI which drive innovation, automation and process optimization

  • Mentors WWPS innovation agents and drives innovation and digitization capability creation in WWPS

Innovation

  • Innovation process execution (includes stakeholder needs identification, POC/prototypes, outcome measures, operational governance)

  • Contribute, execute and oversee the PV Innovation Strategy and Roadmap across WWPS

  • Provide change management leadership within regards to communication strategy, execution, identification of skills and development needs, publication engagement amongst others

  • Contribute and execute on Intelligent Automation Enablement Roadmap

  • Proof of concept design, execution, documentation as applicable

  • Represents WWPS as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders, strategic partners, and regulatory authorities globally.

Business Process Optimization

  • Design measurement & controls by identifying process optimization opportunities.

  • Define project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases and elements, and if applicable lead or support project execution

  • In collaboration with Business Process Optimization lead, supports mapping of prioritized WWPS processes to enable efficiency, effectiveness, continuous improvement and Identification of opportunities for innovation

  • Supports establishment of detailed end-to-end view of WWPS processes to enable clear visibility of handoffs and inter-function deliverables

  • Support establishment and execution of a standard WWPS toolkit and processes for process analysis deliverables

  • Identifies, proposes and maintains process effectiveness measures

Qualifications

  • Master’s level degree (or bachelor’s degree with relevant experience) in medical, life sciences, or computer sciences, or computer engineering.

  • Minimum Eight (8) years pharmaceutical/biotechnology drug safety experience OR innovation, digitalization or automation experience.

  • Minimum Five (5) years management and / or project management experience.

  • Experience and successful track record of leading projects.

  • Experience in implementing tools and applications related to machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence and related concepts in a regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with process mapping and design

  • Solid knowledge on design thinking and related methodologies, experience applying them.

  • Outstanding contextual intelligence and strong leadership skills as demonstrated in international and cross-functional matrix organizations and VUCA environments.

  • Advanced knowledge of the cycle of drug development including relevant regulations, GCP, and GVP
