Summary:

  • The Center for Pelvic Wellness at Princeton Medical Center (PMC) is highly specialized, offering progressive treatments for men, women and children aged 7 and older affected by pelvic floor disorders. Patient population includes, but is not limited to: bladder disorders, i.e., overactive bladder, urinary incontinence and interstitial cystitis, pelvic pain conditions, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic support disorders i.e., prolapses, post-prostatectomy incontinence, sexual dysfunction, chronic prostatitis, hysterectomy, bladder surgeries, tailbone pain, bowel dysfunction/incontinence and constipation, and pregnancy and post-partum complications like pelvic dysfunction and delivery and perineal lacerations. Pelvic floor therapy involves specialized treatment from a physical therapist who is specifically trained in treating pelvic floor disorders with the goal of restoring a higher level of mobility, movement, and healthy function. Services are provided in accordance with the New Jersey Practice Act and the Bylaws of Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center, standards of accreditation and State regulatory bodies, and Code of Ethics of the A.P.T.A. Pelvic Wellness Physical Therapists are responsible for participation in staff education activities and providing consultation for facility personnel. They must communicate and document communication with other disciplines and service in order to provide continuity and coordination of patient care & may also involve administration, education and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a patient examination in a technically competent manner, while making the patient feel comfortable in discussing their symptoms. Performs skilled services as necessary. Uses sound judgment and follows established standards of practice independently.Evaluates clinical findings to determine rehab diagnosis and outcomes of care; Designs a plan of care that involves physical methods of strengthening and/or relaxing the muscles of the pelvic floor to help improve core stability and control over urination, bowel movements, and sexual function. Performs interventions in a competent manner assessing the response to care and adapts delivery of care to respect and sensitivity to individual differences; performs reassessments as necessary. Completes patient goals, treatment plan, outcomes and discharge plan. Assesses needs for other services.Documents care given within the designated time frames within the Daily Treatment Note in the paper chart or in EMR to support the delivery of therapy services and hands off problems and resolutions to the case manager and the team.Incorporates an understanding of economic factors in the delivery of services and maintains compliance with productivity standards of the department as specified in the staffing plan.Demonstrates competency in the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients’ physical, psychological, and social needs. Competent in age specific knowledge and skills. Understands age-related growth and development levels.Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department; collaborates with other caregivers/ staff, within and outside the department to develop means of enhancing patient care and services.Implements a self-directed plan for professional development and lifelong learning.Keeps abreast of changes in policies and procedures. Uses support personnel according to ethical and legal guidelines. Maintains confidentiality as per standards. Professionally represents the PHCS during interactions with suppliers, committee, new employees, and students.Plans and implements in-service and continuing educational activities to meet identified learning needs and performance improvement initiatives. Participating in staff education activities and providing consultation to facility personnel.Participates in marketing and community education functions as requested.Takes a thorough history from the patient and performs a patient examination in a technically competent manner. Educates patient on anatomy, muscle, joints, nerves, organs, and connective tissue that may have a role in the patients’ symptoms.Evaluates clinical findings to determine diagnosis and outcomes of care.Performs interventions in a competent manner.Adapts delivery of care to reflect respect for and sensitivity to individual differences.Adheres to ethical practice standards.Communicates in ways that are congruent with situational needs.Addresses patient needs for other services.Educates others using relevant and effective teaching methods.Implements a self-directed plan for professional development and lifelong learning.Uses support personnel according to legal standards and ethical guidelines.Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department; collaborates with other caregivers/ staff, within and outside the department to develop means of enhancing patient care and services.Maintains standards of confidentiality.Age-Specific Knowledge & Skills – demonstrate the knowledge, skill and attitude necessary to meet the physical, psychological and social needs within the age and developmental levels of the patients served in the department.Participates in unit compliance as related to established standards. Other duties and projects as assigned.Demonstrates competency in the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients’ physical, psychological, and social needs. Understands age-related growth and development levels.Keeps abreast of changes in policies, procedures, and philosophies of the Center for Pelvic Wellness. Professionally represents the Center for Pelvic Wellness departments during interactions with suppliers, committee, new employees, and students.Maintains a consistent level of performance. Follows regulatory guidelines including National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG)

Credentials:

  • Physical Therapist (Required)
  • The physical therapist must be licensed by the New Jersey Board of Physical Therapy in accordance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act of 1983. Pelvic Health related certification preferred at time of hire. This certification includes but is not limited to: APTA Certificate of Achievement in Obstetric or Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (CAPP-OB or CAPP-Pelvic), Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC), Women’s Health Clinical Specialist (WCS), or Pelvic Health Specialist Certification (PHC)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

  • Ph.D.
  • 2 years of treating pelvic floor patients experience preferred Education Specialization:
