Job Description

The US Human Health organization (US-HH) continues to build momentum on its journey of significant transformation and impact, with a focus on patients.

Working in strong partnership with key stakeholders and senior leadership, the Director, US HH Market Strategy, is a high impact, highly visible role, who leads and inspires how the US market assesses and responds to the rapidly changing external environment, relative to its operational and transformational priorities. This colleague and their team will partner on the development of significant strategic initiatives across the Oncology, Vaccines, Hospital Specialty, and Chronic Care Business Units and will work closely with the company’s US market leadership team (USMLT), to frame strategic choices, distill operational implications and prioritize capabilities.

This leader currently oversees an organization of 4+ FTE’s, who work across the enterprise and partner with Marketing, Institutional Account Management (IAM), State and Federal policy, Commercial Operations, Legal, Compliance, IT, Sales and Market Access, to accelerate and operationalize US-HH’s strategy. This leader will also be responsible for closely coordinated efforts with Corporate Strategy and Global Human Health, to ensure clear alignment of Vision, Strategy and Capability development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works in close collaboration with key stakeholders across the US market to include the US Market Leadership Team (USMLT), with responsibility for leading and inspiring how the US market assesses and responds to the rapidly changing external market and policy environment, relative to its operational and transformation priorities. Ability to distill potential commercial & operational implications, from strategic insights.
  • Leads the Annual Budget process for the US Market, to support strategic planning, business prioritization and resourcing decisions, in collaboration with Finance, Leadership across Business Units (Oncology, Vaccines, Hospital Specialty, Chronic Care) and Revenue enabling functions, to include State and Federal policy, IAM, Commercial operations, Market Access, IT, Legal &Compliance.
  • Builds and operationalizes a strong internal and external network of industry experts and thought partners, to build awareness, thoughtfully communicate and engage in senior leader dialog on the strategic and commercial implications of market & policy trends. Partners with the business units and other key stakeholders on strategic and financial implications, on an ongoing basis.
  • Inspires and exemplifies an inclusive talent strategy, focused on attracting highly diverse talent from within and outside the company to include recruiting from universities, hosting GMAP & ADP rotations, and hosting MBA Interns.
  • Collaborates closely with Corporate Strategy, GHH, Business Development, and Finance to ensure business continuity and clear coordination of strategy, investments, and commercial opportunities.
  • Co-leads Enterprise-wide Strategy in partnership with the Corporate Strategy Office, such as the development of our Company's ESG Strategy and our Company's Enterprise Risk Management Program.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: MBA, Master’s degree

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in Corporate Strategy, Strategy Development, Strategic Planning, or Large-Scale Organizational Transformation within biopharma or a related health care sector. Ability to distill potential commercial and operational implications, from strategic insights.
  • 7+ years of Operational - Commercial leadership experience, to include Marketing, Sales, Commercial operations and / or Market Access across the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience leading and inspiring teams, with demonstrated experience in building leaders and mentoring talent
  • Excels at navigating a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous external environment, thinking critically, asking bold questions, framing opportunities and developing strategic recommendations.
  • Strong executive presence, and advanced communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Enjoys and inspires impact through strong collaborative relationships. Ability to lead without direct influence.
  • Knowledge of the macro health care & policy environment and how that translates to potential business impact.
  • Demonstrates high degree of integrity, ethics, and adherence to compliance guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner in developing compelling business cases, influence internally and externally, gain sponsorship for critical strategic and operational initiatives & share succinct implications with senior management.
  • Demonstrates strong project and portfolio management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects, across many stakeholders, while meeting deadlines and driving impact.
  • Experience working with and managing external partners and thought leaders, on key strategic and / or operational initiatives.
  • Strong vision for the future, with the ability to inspire change, gain support and lead organizational transformation.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
