Job Description

Our IT team operates as a business partner proposing ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. We collaborate internationally to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation.

As part of IT transformation, we are forming a Special Operations and Resources (SOAR) organization. Sponsored by the IT Leadership Team, SOAR will further our goals of IT simplification and stability. This organization is focused on connecting technology resources during critical incidents and applying their expertise to troubleshoot and solve issues. SOAR will be highly visible and proactively engaged to address challenges in design and implementation of applications and technologies.


SOAR will partner with our IT Operations, Cyber Fusion, and Application Management teams. Together, we will respond rapidly to current needs and provide insight and guidance to true root cause analysis. SOAR will also partner with the IT Engineering and Enterprise Architecture teams to influence future designs and simplification of our environment.

Position Description:

The SOAR Squad Engineer remains calm and methodical during intense incident resolutions. This position will inspire a systematic approach to troubleshooting major and critical incidents leveraging their years of training and experience. The person will draw immediately upon their well- connected network of subject matter experts and operations leads.

The Squad Engineer will have the unique opportunity to see across many areas of IT and be immersed into complex technical challenges. The person will partner with peer teams to get deeper insights into root cause and preventive measures.

This role will also be engaged in proactive engagements. Collaborating with standing and virtual teams, The Squad Engineer will be drive optimization and simplification of applications and technology before incidents occur.

Core accountabilities include the following:

  • Leverage their extensive technology expertise during incidents and proactive engagements to rapidly resolve issues. Must have an end-to-end view of technology.

  • Use next generation monitoring and analytics tools such as Dynatrace, SevOne, and Netbrain, to analyze the full application stack down to the technology components, infrastructure, and network. To identify areas of fault and bottlenecks.

  • Drive results and be self-motivated.

  • Makes calculated, risk-based decisions during problem resolution and takes ownership for those decisions.

  • Partner with multiple disciplines of engineering and operations during incidents and proactive engagements with a matrix responsibility.

  • Interprets IT and business challenges, recommends improvements to products, processes, or IT Services and advises engineer and architecture teams on designs.

  • Develop trusted relationships with peer organizations and stakeholders globally to further expand a network of subject-matter experts, engineer, architects, and operations leads.

  • Assess the impact, criticality and complexity of the problem and develops the plan to evaluate and compare the options for resolution.

  • Act as consultant and be part of initial design for the new service. Identifies overlaps and gaps in responsibilities of various architects involved in design.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of five years deep experience in 2 or more of the following area:

    • Network engineering and troubleshooting.

    • Compute, Storage, database engineer and design.

    • Client operating System hands on troubleshooting.

    • Application Development. Modern Cloud Oriented designs.

    • Savvy in IT security and cyber security.

  • Prior focus on systems performance, testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, being able to explain in detail findings and recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with a variety of audiences and stakeholders including, but not limited to executive management, business leaders, IT peers, and colleagues worldwide.

  • Proven track record in problem solving skills and use of root cause analysis tools and techniques.

  • Results-oriented with the proven ability and reputation for developing plans and implementing them successfully.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Education in Computer Science/Engineering.

  • Prior experience in technology engineering or operations teams.

  • Experience with our Company's systems engineering, platform design, and application development.

  • Foundation in ITIL, COBIT or Microsoft Operations Framework.
