PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Manager, Risk and Insurance, the successful candidate will support the development and continuous improvement of the Corporate Risk Management strategy. They are to provide advice, support and reporting regarding the corporate insurance program. Responsibilities include the provision of internal contractual advice, supporting and participating in insurance program renewals, and administering CP’s Enterprise Risk Management Program (ERM).

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deliver the Corporate Risk Management strategy through the application of risk management principles of exposure identification, control techniques, and financial alternatives, for all areas of hazard risk within CP. This includes participation in the development of creative solutions to facilitate and enable business opportunities;
  • Prepare and deliver communication and expert advice to Company personnel of various levels on the Risk Management strategy and the Corporate Insurance Program;
  • Prepare and validate underwriting information required to negotiate corporate insurance coverage including the provision of relevant information to brokers, underwriters, and tax authorities. Assist to negotiate and prepare core insurance contracts including ensuring that proper insurance coverage is in place to protect the financial interests of CP, its subsidiaries, and Joint Ventures;
  • Prepare marketing presentations for corporate insurance renewals;
  • Review insurance policies for accuracy and provide recommendations for policy wording changes and/or improvements to the various corporate policies to best protect the interests of CP, its subsidiaries, and Joint Ventures;
  • Formulate and recommend indemnity and insurance clauses to be used in various agreements to ensure adequate insurance coverage is supplied to protect CP, its subsidiaries, and Joint Ventures. Provide advice on liability and indemnity provisions to ensure proper linkage to insurance clauses and alignment with Risk Management strategy;
  • Keep up-to-date on current developments and trends in the field of Risk Management in order to plan and/or develop their possible application to corporate insurance coverages;
  • Provide support in the delivery of CP’s ERM program. Facilitate meetings with internal stakeholders and complete relevant reporting; and
  • Provide support to Manager Risk and Claims Recovery and Manager of Crisis Preparedness and Business Continuity as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education (Degree/Diploma) in a relevant discipline such as Business or Finance is required;
  • CIP, FCIP or CRM designation (or near completion) would be an asset;
  • 3-5 years’ experience in transportation related risk management, insurance broking or underwriting;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing contracts, and recommending liability and insurance clause language to identify, control and manage risk exposures;
  • Insurance technical knowledge;
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with keen analytical, communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong computer skills –Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to build positive, productive business relationships;
  • Self-motivated, with strong organization skills and ability to meet tight deadlines; and
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience within a large corporate environment would be an asset.

Management Conductor Program:
