Responsibilities

James F. Butler & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a trial attorney to join the Jericho NY office. Selected candidates will join our Bronx North Trial team and will be responsible for handling a high volume caseload from discovery stage through trial. Competitive candidates will demonstrate an exceptional knowledge of civil procedure along with evidence and trial procedures. The selected candidate will possess outstanding research abilities, written and oral advocacy skills, and will be well organized, detail oriented, and have the ability to independently manage a busy time sensitive caseload.

Members of the Bronx North Trial team primarily handle cases assigned to the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam venues, but may travel to other jurisdictions on Long Island and the 5 boroughs, as needed. The position is classified as a hybrid role, meaning that the work arrangement calls for hours in the office and virtually. Everyone in a hybrid role is required to spend some time in the office. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.

Based in Jericho, NY, we enjoy an active and busy civil trial practice and this position will require travel and appearances in Westchester, Rockland, Orange Putnam, the 5 NYC boroughs, and Long Island. We provide a congenial, team-oriented, and professional work environment with skilled support staff.

Please Note: Our Westchester Satellite office is anticipated to open in the Fall of 2023. Until that time, the Bronx North Trial team will work out of the Jericho location.

Qualifications

• Law degree from ABA accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
• An active license to practice law in New York and be a member in good standing with the state bar
• 1-5 years of insurance defense litigation/trial experience
• Experience working in a paperless environment
• Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling
• Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
