This position is expected to start on June 1, 2021. However, employment is contingent on ability to successfully obtain a minimum of a Public Trust Waiver prior to your start date as well as the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Suitability Determination for the duration of this position

Leidos is looking for a top notch candidate to perform procedural and office support tasks for one or more AUSAs in support of one of our federal agency customers in Brooklyn, NY.

Overtime and travel may be required as needed with proper authorization. Individual may support any division/section within depending on the needs of the office at time of hire.

Typical assignments include the following but not limited to:

  • Schedule appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences

  • Receive and review incoming correspondence and forwards each item to the appropriate AUSA or to other staff based on a knowledge of the duties and functions of the United States Attorney's Office

  • Receive telephone calls and visitors, screening those which can be handled without help

  • Maintain legal and general office files.

  • Review, screen, and control incoming mail.

  • Review outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, format, and presentation. Brings errors to the attention of the writer.

  • Searches file for material used in recurring reports. Assembles file data or secures data from staff members into the proper format based on the purpose and nature of the report.

  • Makes travel arrangement, secure accommodations and maintains contact while the Government traveler is in travel status.

  • Produce written documents utilizing a range of office automation software. Retrieves required information from various files and records and prepares legal documents with complicated formatting. Ensures proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. Consults with document author to resolve questionable material.

  • Use office software, provide automated litigation assistance to attorneys by preparing charts and other specialized materials relating to trial preparation and presentations.

  • Conduct legal research and drafts acceptable substantive pleadings

  • Draft and review motions and responses to defense pleadings

  • Review and edit draft of substantive legal documents drafted by attorneys, paralegal specialists, and other support staff members

  • Prepares appropriate case summaries to assist the AUSA in preparation for pre-trial motions hearings and/or trial

  • Use established network or mainframe databases, e.g., JUSTIS Westlaw, Lexis, RCIS, Automated Papering System (APS), Automated Trial Preparation (ATP), performs data searches, report design, and other data retrieval assignments

  • Prepare and submit legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines

  • May be designated as "team leader" for larger group of Document Management Technicians and/or clerical support staff.

  • Performs other miscellaneous tasks.

The above mentioned duties may be performed as single functions or in combination with one another.

Basic Qualifications:

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Three years of experience on major litigation support projects or undergraduate degree. Certain assignments may require experience or substantial undergraduate coursework in, for example, finance/accounting, health care, or substantial experience in the legal environment or in information technology.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment.

- Requires hands-on familiarity with the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications, internet and server-based databases and other applications, such as Oracle, Relativity or other document review platform, Trial Director, etc.

- Should be a knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, imaging, and hardware systems (i.e. Microsoft Office Word, Excel, etc… or similar applications).

- Ability to perform detailed work consistently, accurately, and under pressure extremely important.

- Must have typing/keyboarding skills.

- Knowledge of and skill in the use of common office hardware, including personal computers, electronic media duplicators, scanners, facsimile machines, photocopiers, multifunction printers, telephones and similar equipment

- Ability to answer switchboard/multi-line phone system.

- Ability to work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff.

- Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office.

- Skilled in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.

- Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items

- Ability to obtain a security clearance.

- Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with Residential Mortgage Backed Securities

- Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications.

- Familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources, preferred.

- Ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal.

- Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis or Westlaw, preferred.

- Current or active clearance.
