Job Description

The Opportunity

The Agile Coach will create the Agile curriculum, drive trainings, and develop a long-term Agile coaching plan that helps BT increase Agile adoption and scale. The Agile Coach will be the primary internal subject matter expert for a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) transformations. Leveraging expertise gained from prior transformations, a mastery of SAFe curriculum and practices, and a keen ability to influence others, the Agile Coach will provide hands-on, practical, and consultative guidance in helping digital teams pivot to Scrum and to SAFe.


This role has responsibility for developing an Organon-specific Agile training curriculum, playbook, and training schedule to ensure that all of BT and its core stakeholders can work in an Agile manner. The Agile coach will ensure that all teams are trained and able to apply Agile principles, that Organon’s Agile Implementation is documented, and that there is a clear process for onboarding new team members to Agile ways of working.

The Agile Coach will collaborate with Agile delivery teams or Agile teams of teams, their business stakeholders, and the BT leadership team to develop broad training plans as well as customized curriculums for role and team-specific needs. The Agile Coach will also partner to drive other change management initiatives tied to Agile adoption and Portfolio Management to inform governance structures and implement Agile ways of working wherever necessary.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be a leader of the Agile mindset and further Agile ways of working through collaboration with leadership, Agile Teams, and function stakeholders

  • Develop coaching plan leveraging SAFe/Scrum experience for Team of Teams, Product teams, delivery teams, and all relevant stakeholders

  • Develop method and metrics to track Agile knowledge and application throughout BT to inform future coaching plans

  • Refine coaching plans every 3-6M with help of leadership based on org goals

  • Translate all OGN-specific learnings and processes into an Organon-specific Agile playbook

  • Create internal Agile community through branding and ambassador programs that drives awareness and adoption of Agile principles by applying practices in daily work and championing implementation efforts

  • Conduct 1:1 feedback sessions with team leaders to understand areas of improvement and/or need

  • Shadow teams to understand team maturity and provide specialized coaching when applicable

  • Identify impediments and manage through with proper escalation and coaching

  • Collaborate on transformation / change management topics in helping develop coaching and upskilling plans for new ways of working leveraging Agile principles

  • Collaborate with Portfolio Management to drive process improvements across governance and Agile Teams progress updates leveraging Agile principles and best practices

  • Provide education, coaching, and occasional hands-on assistance with teams pivoting from waterfall to scrum & from scrum to SAFe and with individuals moving from a Scrum Master to a Release Train Engineer role

  • Guide teams in preparation for, and execution of, Program Increment Planning sessions

  • As needed, act as the Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer as needs dictate

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors; degree required:

  • SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC)
  • SAFe Certified RTE
  • At least 2-years’ experience teaching SAFe classes
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in Agile as a Scrum Master, RTE and Coaching / Consulting
  • Prior, hands-on experience leading a SAFe transformation for another organization, including pivoting teams into Scrum and then SAFe, and organizing and facilitating PI Planning events and forming Release Trains

  • Scrum Certification (CSM/PSM/RSM)
