What you’ll be doing...

As a member of the Verizon Public Sector Proposal Center, the successful candidate will lead a team of Proposal Managers that develops proposals to Verizon’s State, Local, and Education (SLED) customers. He/she will oversee a team that works closely with internal stakeholders and other Proposal Center team members to deliver top-quality, winning responses to SLED solicitations. This position reports directly to the Center Director.As manager of this team, you will oversee the assignment of Proposal Managers from your team to various proposal projects. You will also work closely with your team to develop and deploy best practices and help them overcome challenges that might impact timeliness, completeness, and compliance of their proposals.

The successful candidate may also serve as a working Proposal Manager to support surge assignments or fill in for absent team members (i.e., vacations, illnesses). In the role of Proposal Manager, you will:

  • Lead local and remote proposal teams and associated teammates in the development process, ensuring the proposal follows best practices in a productive and timely manner.
  • Manage and direct proposal efforts to include preparation, revision, and submission; establishes and manages proposal schedule. Communicate, clarify, and enforce roles and responsibilities of the proposal team members with the Capture Manager or Account Team Lead.
  • Develop/maintain proposal management-related artifacts for each opportunity to include kickoff materials, master outline and compliance matrix, schedule, writing instructions and templates, daily stand-up agenda, and others.
  • Review/analyze proposal sections for consistency and clarity, compliance with requirements, and alignment with proposed solutions and themes. Re-write or recommend rewrites to deliver high quality, winning proposal products.
  • Convene color teams and prepare color team packages for review. Lead team through color review recovery from post-review assessment to providing guidance for implementation of approved content changes.
  • Remain current on all solicitation modifications and communicate them to the team. Revises schedule, outline, and compliance matrix as necessary throughout proposal life cycle.
  • Ensure proposal compliance and completeness, checking and tracking artifacts regularly throughout the proposal life cycle.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six or more years of experience in proposal management focused on state and local government solicitations, invitations to bid, and responses.
  • Experience in working efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Evenbetter if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience supporting the development and implementation of process/tool improvements in the proposal industry.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with personnel in senior leadership positions to present challenges/issues impacting proposal quality and recommending solutions.
  • Organizational and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of proposal development life cycles, and understanding of Shipley or other proposal development processes.
  • Fiveyears of experience as a people leader whether in a direct reporting environment or in leading cross-functional teams to achieve proposal delivery.
  • Knowledge with use of proposal collaboration and knowledge management tools.
  • Ability to coordinate off-site direct reports, off-site subcontractors, and proposal team members.
