What you’ll be doing...

The Director of Vendor Management and Governance willbe leading a large, complex vendor management organization in Verizon’s Global Technology Services (GTS) Strategy and Planning group. This hands-on leadership role will partner with Sourcing, Legal, and the development teams across the IT organization to negotiate contracts, manage vendors, and build an enterprise-wide software asset management program. This role will work closely with senior leadership and peers across Verizon’s GTS organization. The Director is responsible for driving internal and external best practices, and bringing new thought leadership to the organization to optimize the portfolio, and negotiate to bring the best outcomes for Verizon.
  • Collaboration and defining new opportunities that leverage/ influence technology and expertise to solve business challenges are key to this role.
  • The individual must demonstrate strong communication, leadership and integrity in dealing with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead teams responsible for hardware/ software vendor management, software asset management, and data processing budget
  • Negotiate with vendors, providing strategic oversight and escalation in managing vendor relationships to ensure financial and operational objectives
  • Provide strategic oversight and escalation in managing vendor relationships to ensure financial and operational objectives; provide executive briefings to executives
  • Lead and execute vendor selection and evaluation, pricing and contract negotiations, and vendor contract compliance
  • Sustain existing vendor relationships and build new ones
  • Evaluate existing software asset management program and implement more robust practice enterprise wide
  • Standardize the vendor performance management process, including service agreements, scorecards, financial targets, and compliance monitoring of vendors
  • Execute projects that accomplish best vendor ROI for Verizon, which may include savings, operational improvement, supplier consolidation or diversification, risk management, or improving spend visibility
  • Establish vendor performance standards
  • Evaluate and validate existing tools
  • Manage large hardware/ software budget for the IT enterprise, with a focus on problem solving for critical business issues, creating valuation models to assess different options, and consolidating budgets from outside of IT into existing deals
  • Develop and implement cross-functional process improvement strategies to advance vendor data and analytics
  • Liaise cross-functionally to troubleshoot and provide resolution to vendor issues
  • Asses service capabilities, capacity, and financial impact of potential vendor agreements
  • Research and identify alternate staffing solutions and/or alternate processes for improvement
  • Translate operational challenges into structured problem statements that cascade to operational plans
  • Lead the maintenance and improvement of tools for use in vendor management, including vendor
    tracking, analytics, and performance management tools (scorecards and dashboards)

What we’re looking for...

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • 8+ years experience in technology sourcing and vendor management function, with direct negotiation experience required
  • Software Asset Management, preferably IAITAM Certified Software Asset (CSAM) Manager
  • Demonstrated excellence in thinking holistically about a problem
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and with integrity
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, manage and drive action
  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship skills
  • Ability to build consensus and cooperation as well as to influence, interact and negotiate with senior leadership in the organization

  • MBA degree
  • Working knowledge of key contract language and terms in technology agreements
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment and in a role that requires influencing across different levels in the organization (internal and vendors) and cross functional teams (legal, finance, risk management etc.) and successfully managing competing priorities
  • Experience with vendor management, extended workforce, legal agreements, program implementation, process improvement, and compliance
  • Experience managing change across different organizational functions and boundaries
  • Ability to embrace, pivot, and shift focus based on changing priorities and/or the business environment and champion innovative ideas
  • Excellent understanding of measuring performance through metrics, and KPIs with the ability to hold vendors accountable
  • Experience using data and analytics to influence business decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills and savvy interpersonal skills with an established ability to take initiative and build productive relationships between internal stakeholders and vendors
  • Strong presentation, verbal skills, listening, and influencing skills
