Position Summary:

This role sits within the Business Capabilities & Innovation (BCI) function within Worldwide Patient Safety (WWPS) and will be responsible for creating the global communication capability framework for WWPS

  • align communication strategies with the WWPS and BCI purpose and values

  • define communication framework for planning, executing and managing communication strategies

  • change initiatives affecting organizations (roles, competencies), processes, and technologies across WWPS.

  • communications to facilitate awareness, adoption and advocacy of WWPS capabilities and value proposition among internal and external stakeholders;

Must be experienced in leading multi-disciplinary teams, proactively developing relationships with stakeholders globally and across functions, and strategic planning and execution. Drives employee engagement, capability development, adoption of new ways of working, and business effectiveness through application of strategic communication planning and effective change management techniques.

Oversees agencies and/or consultants involved in the development and design of content for multi-channel delivery; must ensure timely and cost-effective outputs in keeping with service agreements.

Core Responsibilities:

Internal and External Communications:

  • Develop and execute WWPS and BCI communications strategies and messaging platforms to ensure consistency in development and delivery of communications

  • Foster awareness and advocacy of both WWPS and BCI value proposition among global, regional, local and cross-functional stakeholders through design and delivery of branding and awareness campaigns (includes support of Patient Week, WPSD campaigns)

  • Drive development, design and delivery of WWPS communications through multiple content development tools and communication channels

  • Establish collaborative relationships and processes with Corporate Communications, Social Media, HR, Legal, Regulatory to enable WWPS internal and external communication strategies and optimally leverage enterprise channels (eg, BMS PULSE, BMS.com, social media, etc.)

  • Ensure WWPS and BCI web-based communication platforms are designed and optimized for positive and seamless user experience (eg, SharePoint, WWPS News, Yammer, etc)

  • Utilize metrics to inform communications strategy/execution, and continuously improve experience

Change Management:

  • Responsible for core communication and change management activities across WWPS, promoting successful implementation of WWPS initiatives

  • Assess change management needs across WWPS and tailor change management support model accordingly; ensure sponsor buy-in and engagement to lead change through a systematic and aligned change approach

  • Partner with WWPS leaders and HR (if applicable) on potential impacts to jobs, reporting and organizational structures

  • Lead development of aligned communications messages and content for multi-channel delivery to ensure transparency and consistency in WWPS communications regarding strategic initiatives

  • Responsible for identification, analysis, and management of stakeholder groups, based on identified change impacts

  • Ensure change, communication and training plans effectively prepare colleagues for change, manage change impact, and reinforce and sustain positive outcomes and experiences (leveraging change methodologies such as PROSCI)

  • Develop and grow change competency within WWPS organization through provision of change management training, standards, tools/templates and toolkits, and engagement with regional and functional change liaisons

  • Co-lead global change champion and sponsorship network to assess change readiness & impact, manage resistance, and support delivery of program communications

Other Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across WWPS leaders, HR and talent organizations to define future focused skill development needs for WWPS

  • Leverage market intelligence to identify and define emerging core competencies for PV and Risk Management professionals (eg, data science; visualization; storytelling; etc) and input into WWPS Learning Strategy

  • Leverage communications and learning best practices to improve access and experience with curated learning solutions (multi-channel) which align with WWPS professional development goals, in partnership with WWPS Learning Strategy organization

  • Support design and delivery of development programs for WWPS (including Project Bank, preceptorships, rotations, etc); support WWPS Learning Strategy team in delivery of learning programs as needed

  • Conducts business in accordance with BMS Values. Completes all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframe and adheres to job-specific SOPs and work instructions

  • Support hiring, training, mentorship and development of staff within BCI and WWPS as needed

  • Participates in external meetings/seminars and/or internal learning and development programs to enhance professional skillset, knowledge management skillset, and broaden pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Lead and/or contribute to BCI and/or WWPS strategic initiatives to support individual and organizational development

Degree / Experience Requirements

  • BA or BS Required, advanced scientific or graduate degree highly preferred

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or life science industry required.

  • Experience with Corporate or Scientific Communications required; Change Management and/or Learning & Development experience highly preferred

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Demonstrated record of leadership, professional advancement and accomplishments

  • Demonstrated communications experience including planning, writing, editing, designing and the production of newsletters, email banners, infographics, marketing literature, and other print or online material

  • Experience with digital and creative content design tools (eg, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Illustrator, etc.) is preferred

  • Experience with optimizing user experience with communications channels through analytics (eg, websites, SharePoint, social media, etc.)

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, presentation and storytelling skills with the ability to effectively interface with senior management

  • Experience in public speaking and group facilitation; ability to develop and clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences is required

  • Excellent project leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and develop collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary stakeholders

  • Experience managing service providers (consultants, vendors, agencies)

  • Demonstrated experience managing change in a global organization; understanding of change management methodologies and tools is highly desired (eg, PROSCI)

  • Self-motivated with exceptional follow-through

  • Must be organized with a natural inclination for planning strategy and tactics

  • Appreciation and understanding of patient safety processes & requirements including the safety regulatory and inspection environment desired
