Overview:

Animal Health Global Supplier Management (AH-GSM) is an organization of approximately 200 professionals with the common objective of compliant, competitive, and innovative acquisition of goods & services from leading suppliers who deliver a competitive advantage to Merck. AH-GSM manages approximately $2.5B in third party spend through an organizational structure that leverages categorical and regional subject matter expertise.

We are looking to bring on three (3) Fellows this cohort within our Animal Health Global Supplier Management organization. The fellow will support one of the three specific areas below:

· Merck Animal Health Intelligence (MAHI) business unit

· Veterinary Devices Team

· Animal Health Marketing Services

Your Fellowship Project - Merck Animal Health Intelligence (MAHI) business unit

You will partner with team members from the Merck Animal Health Intelligence (MAHI) business unit to secure supply, minimize external risks, and develop in-house capability to support MAHI growth strategy. This role will support the MAHI Manufacturing sites and direct materials sourcing strategy development.


The intent of the fellowship is to:

· Assist with strategic sourcing initiatives to support ID, Monitoring, and SPC business lines

· Organize and implement buying catalogues to give MAHI sites access to competitive pricing with preferred suppliers.

· Operationalize MAHI supplier contracts through Ariba supplier workspaces

· Organize and lead continuous improvement projects aimed at streamlining procurement activities.

· Tie together input from GSM Centers of Excellence to ensure adherence to GSM strategy

Your Fellowship Project - Veterinary Devices Team

This role will report to the Devices Category Lead within the Animal Health Global Supplier Management team and contribute directly to enabling high value cost savings opportunities and consolidation of multiple products with key strategic partners around the world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure due diligence and process compliance in supplier evaluation and selection opportunities to ensure appropriate savings and service levels. This includes completing mandatory legal contract requirements, financial due diligence, and managing relationships with external contacts to enable effective negotiations and evaluations for new business opportunities.

Additionally, serve as an operational and technical resource for the AH-GSM organization and stakeholders in Merck Animal Health to communicate and resolve purchasing systems issues; negotiate successful resolution to problems or concerns; educate customers about process and technology of supplier management functions.

Additional responsibilities may include as follows:

· Supplier and Supply Market Analysis – To conduct rigorous market intelligence and detailed supplier and supply market analyses, to provide deep and meaningful insight to Sourcing teams.

· Cost Modeling / Cost reduction – To construct detailed cost models/purchase price analysis of goods and services that are supplied to Merck. At times, this will require supplier visits to create a complete understanding of the cost structure of suppliers and develop cost reduction opportunities.

· Supplier Performance Management – supplier performance monitoring, root cause investigation, issue management, risk assessment and mitigation

· Financial Analysis & Reporting – To prepare analysis and reporting of category spend, savings, compliance, and other metrics data on a regular (quarterly) basis. To support the annual budget / profit planning process for the category at the global level. To maintain financial reporting and management systems (including SAP) with up-to-date data on an ongoing basis.

· Negotiation Planning – To create pre-negotiation plans, including direct participation in negotiation sessions with suppliers and to conduct post negotiation debriefs and action plans.

· Sourcing – To create and execute RFIs, RFPs, and e-Auctions, together with subsequent structured information analysis wherever possible using electronic procurement processes.

· Sharing of Learning’s – The incumbent will be expected to generate work of a world class quality and share and transfer this to colleagues throughout AH-GSM.

· Continuous Improvement – Hold self, team members, and suppliers accountable to the intention of continuous improvement, and to lead and manage the measurement and review process to ensure delivery of expectations.

Your Fellowship Project - Animal Health Marketing Services

The person will take active role in supporting and implementing procurement strategies, global category management, contract management, risk management, stakeholder management, and supplier value management. They will also be involved in helping build strong relationships with regional marketing services procurement leads, Finance, CoE’s , Global Human Health GP teams, internal stakeholders as well as suppliers. The role reports to the Associate Director and CoE (Center of Excellence) of Marketing Services- Indirect Procurement in AH-Global Supplier Management (GSM).

The categories of activity include but are not limited to Advertising, Media (Traditional, Social & Digital), Contract Sales Organization (CSO), Print, Market Research, Public Relations, Branding, and Events) globally.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

· People leadership- Expected to lead sourcing projects and influence peers, as appropriate, participate, influence and leverage cross-functional team members on sourcing projects. Support the building of a Center of Expertise in Marketing and Commercial Operations services who have direct responsibility for sourcing and projects. Support in the building of a high-performance engagement model with the business and regions.

· Sourcing Excellence:

o Supports development, recommendation and implementation of sourcing strategies and ensures alignment, compliance, and delivery of business requirements/needs.

o As sourcing lead demonstrates excellence in executing sourcing management process (Category Management) and closely collaborates with all appropriate groups during each step of the process. Including getting approval at all key project stages via Peer Review.

o Sourcing - to create and execute RFI’s and RFPs together with subsequent structured information analysis.

· Contract Management- to prepare, negotiate and implement appropriate forms of contract and commitment with suppliers.

· Supplier Value Management - to ensure that appropriate supplier agreements and relationships have good supplier metrics embedded within them. Monitor, report, manage and continuously improve supplier performance. Implement Supplier Value Management with the key suppliers in this category to foster innovation, manage supplier performance, establish a Governance Model, and ensure continuous improvement.

· Negotiation Planning and Execution- to create detailed pre-negotiation plans, to lead and participate in negotiation sessions with suppliers and to conduct post negotiation debriefs and follow through plans. Leads development and implement cost saving projects.

· Supplier and Supply Market Analysis –conduct a detailed supplier and supply market analysis looking at facts and data analysis with the objective of providing deep and meaningful insight to Sourcing Management teams.

· Construct detailed cost models (TCO)/purchase price analysis of goods and services that are sourced; this may include supplier visits to create a complete understanding of the cost structure of suppliers.

· Uses thorough market knowledge and data analysis to gain critical insights that drive the selection of Sourcing Strategies and continuous improvement activities.

· Stakeholder Management - Establish and maintain Marketing stakeholder relationship. Develop broad understanding of Stakeholder and business needs and priorities.

o The fellowship maybe completed 100% remote however full-time positions afterwards may require relocation to one our US locations (preference to NJ/PA locations)
