The Optum Behavioral Health Strategic Capabilities Team provides management and oversight for many of our business’ most important shared platforms and processes.
Our team members are internal product managers, designing and delivering key building blocks used to construct and run the products and services Optum offers to the marketplace.
We fall in love with some of the toughest problems facing our business. We are “CEOs” for the capabilities we manage - accountable for driving strategy, scoping and prioritization. We do research, design solutions, build CBAs, are the faces for our capabilities, identify dependencies and conflicts, maintain roadmaps, and partner with IT and business delivery and operations teams on execution.

We are searching for a mission-driven product/capability expert for a new position. This person will be a key leader driving the long term vision and strategy for our healthcare “Utilization Management” functions - supporting a central part of our business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Business ownership accountability for Utilization Management related features and capabilities across a range of enterprise systems
  • Follow trends and anticipate what is happening in the market to inform a compelling business case, value statements, and customer stories
  • Make recommendations and/or decisions on whether to maintain, invest, scale, or de-invest in the assigned capability
  • Analyze data from Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the capability. Partner with and direct data analysis teams in generating and delivering on metric requirements
  • Monitor the capability to validate relevance and desired impact on target business strategy(ies)
  • Use enterprise-wide thinking and business knowledge to solve problems. Challenges current thinking
  • Translate business strategies into priorities and requirements for engineering teams
  • Work with matrix partners across businesses and functional groups to translate requirements into concrete operational processes and measurement plans
  • Validate requirements with businesses and engages with target users to test and iterate on experiences to confirm desired outcomes
  • Build and maintain a prioritization framework. Manage backlogs and backlogs to support efficient development and delivery of business capabilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of combined business analysis, product and/or capability management experience
  • 2+ years partnering closely with or on Agile software engineering teams
  • 1+ years of leadership experience. Either direct team management or “dotted line” supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on healthcare utilization management / prior authorization related initiatives
  • Experience working within a large matrixed enterprise
  • Significant experience applying Agile principles and practices in business or product owner roles
  • Managed health care / payer experience
  • Behavioral health familiarity/experience
  • Knowledge of user centered design practices. Hands on experience
  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $87,900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
