Eaton’s Enterprise Engineering Centers of Excellence’s (CoE) Embedded Software & Controls Execution CoE has an opening for an Engineering Manager - Embedded Software & Controls Execution. Producing electro-mechanical actuation components since 1963, our Grand Rapids facility has just under 200 employees. Relocation within the U.S. is provided for this position.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $128250.0 - $188100.0 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

What you’ll do:

This position will lead a team of engineers in the Software and Controls COE, to develop airborne software (SW), firmware (FW), and control systems for all Aerospace programs and will direct, develop, and implement strategic and tactical plans for execution of embedded SW/FW and control system and airborne embedded systems development programs and IR&D projects. The Manager will lead and direct development of a global team of software and controls engineers directly and indirectly in the U.S., Prague and India. They will be responsible for development of leading-edge software, firmware and controls methodologies, architectures, and practices to deliver leading solutions in embedded control systems for our customers. Be primary leadership interface with our CoE customers for software, firmware and controls-based solutions and to instill confidence to deliver highly complex systems on time, on cost, on quality.

In this role you will:

  • This position is globally responsible for the tactical and strategic direction of the global development of embedded software, firmware, and control systems for the Eaton’s Aerospace Group programs, but may also be asked to support other Industrial Sector businesses in the technical field.
  • Development of competency, process, tools, and technologies aligned to support Aerospace product and system strategies for embedded systems.
  • Responsible for capacity planning, resource management, and project staffing to meet external and internal customer deliverables and expectations, including the use of global and external resources.
  • Manages complex projects involving multiple components or systems for completeness and compatibility with organizational objectives and standards.
  • Coordinate the activities of multiple customers and multiple suppliers in a complex international environment. Act as the technical interface between Eaton’s external customers and sub-contractors.
  • Create plans and documentation in compliance with customer specifications and industry regulations (DO178/DO254, etc.) Lead software/firmware development, design and implementation efforts as per plan.
  • Hiring, retention and development of technical talent.

Qualifications:

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded full life cycle software or firmware design and/or verification activities in a process rigorous company.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills as well as planning and organizational skills. Ability to effectively present results and recommendations to senior-level Aerospace and customer management.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, get results and drive change through others.
  • Experience managing by influence through solid relationships and process focus.
  • Embedded control software/firmware design/verification
  • Developing software/firmware per an engineering development process for RTCA/DO-178/DO-254, or Software Engineering Institute CMMI level 3, or equivalent.
  • Creating, planning, design, verification, and analysis documentation per engineering process requirements, DO-178/DO-254 experience preferred.
  • Planning, estimating, and tracking software project development phases.
  • Hardware In the Loop, Model In the Loop, and/or Software In the Loop
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management processes and tools
  • Demonstrated experience in full life cycle of software development, verification, and certification preferably in aerospace, vehicle, or medical device or similar safety-critical domain.
  • Can assess trade-offs between business needs, technology requirements, and cost.
