About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Technical Operations Leader to support the packaging of oral solid dosage pharmaceutical products to be based in Cramlington, North East of England.

In this role, you will guide and support a team of Engineers and Scientists whilst also applying your technical knowledge. You will be able to use your skills in areas related to technical support for packaging of pharmaceutical oral solid dosage forms, product lifecycle management and technology selection and transfer. You will manage in-line products and new product introductions to the site, overseeing core team activities.

Role responsibilities

  • Manage a Technical Operations team of engineers and scientists.

  • Provide technical support for all processes involved in the packaging of oral solid dosage products on site.

  • Co-ordinate and/or initiate the introduction of new or transferred products to site, including assistance with specification, testing, qualification, and operation of new capital process equipment, ensuring timely use, efficient performance, successful validation and optimal process capability.

  • Support the integration of packaging technology into operations including serialization and aggregation and in-process testing and controls.

  • Lead packaging cleaning validation and packaging validation activities on site, providing technical oversight for the preparation of validation documents.

  • Investigate and follow up on issues arising from manufacturing or laboratory deviations, establishing assignable causes for atypical events and propose appropriate actions to minimize rework and improve process capability.

  • Responsibility for pack component changes, line trials, improvement activities and component technical specifications.

  • Responsibility for coaching, training and development of members of the team and educating other areas on the roles and responsibilities of Technical Services.

  • Demonstrate Operational Excellence through continuous improvement and system robustness improvements with use of appropriate tools such as Lean Six sigma.

  • Manage Technical support to Quality and Compliance Initiatives.

  • Lead specialist topic cross-functional teams for the site or company.

Role requirements

  • Technical Expertise preferred in Packaging Operations and pharma. Or in a combination of two or more of the following API, Biologics, Vaccines, Sterile, Engineering, Analytical.

  • A demonstrated track record of applying scientific, technical knowledge and problem-solving approaches to deliver business results.

  • Proven Project Management skills in a lean manufacturing environment.

  • BS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Pharmaceutics, Science or Equivalent

  • Manages and coaches direct reports (coaching, employee development, talent management, performance management activities)
