In this role you will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), responsible for the Research and Development Center of Excellence Team within the Organon Research and Development Global Procurement (ORD GP) organization. ORD GP is part of the Global Procurement Supplier Management (GPSM) organization under Business Services within Organon. ORD Global Procurement faces the Organon Research and Development organization and serves their 900+ clients consisting of 23+ subcategories with approximate $69MM in spend. This person has 3 direct reports driving category strategy, contracting and sourcing events to meet the needs of the business.

The job can be 100% remote.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for engaging with senior business stakeholders across the globe and working with the team to enable business strategies through executed procurement objectives and sourcing strategies.

  • Responsible and accountable for coordinating internal activities across three stakeholder groups (Procurement colleagues, Stakeholders and Business Partners).

  • Participates/leads teams of global, regional & local representatives to develop and implement strategic sourcing plans as well as to ensure alignment on key initiatives and priorities.

  • As a member of the ORD Global Procurement Leadership team, will co-develop organizational strategies, targets, and metrics to achieve the ORD objectives.

  • Identifies and engages with critical stakeholders and partners to define and meet or exceed business requirements and identify and manage profit plan savings targets.

  • Serve as a point of contact to the ORD Community Country for R&D on procurement related matters and work.

  • Work with direct reports and the broader organization to support different initiatives and ensure strong governance to prevailing regulations, policies, and processes.

  • Responsible for building relationships with key suppliers in the market and ensure management of key supplier performance against business requirements using proven processes; ensures adequate inclusion of diversity suppliers in sourcing initiatives and contracts as applicable.

  • Where necessary, participation in Market Intelligence activities in connection with the Target; collaborate with direct reports on data gathering and analysis in connection with the Target; other activities that contribute to fundamentally changing or affecting the status quo in pursuit of a long-term competitive advantage to Organon.

  • Oversee implementation of tactical plans or projects directly linked to the strategy.

  • Support, guide and oversee implementation of sourcing plan (list of RFIs/RFPs and direct negotiations) pursuant to supplier selection aligned with strategic goals.

  • Process re-engineering in cooperation with the business pursuant to modifying or creating processes in connection with strategic goals.

  • Dialogue and meetings with Procurement team members in connection with execution of strategic goals; other activities that are directly linked with execution of strategic goals.

  • Ongoing procurement activities related to transactions and projects not in connection with sourcing process or strategy creation/execution.

  • Contract reviews, negotiations reviews; manage escalations resulting from PO issue resolution; approving creation of new vendors; manage escalation of supplier issue resolution; technology/process execution; dialogues and meetings with Procurement in connection with supplier and stakeholder resolution; all transactions not in connection with the sourcing process or strategy creation/execution, which ensure continuity of the business function and sustainability of the procurement function.

  • Design, planning and implementation of actions and projects in connection with sourcing process or strategic goals tied to developing, improving, sustaining, or repositioning Organon's relationship with critical/strategic suppliers; development/participation in supplier forums, market organizations and conferences; dialogues and meetings with business partners and suppliers in connection with Target; review analysis and negotiation of contracts pursuant to Target.

  • Drive supplier performance management in the identification and collection of SLAs. In conjunction with stakeholders, discuss the SLAs and identification of continuous performance improvement with suppliers.

  • Build and manage strong working relationships with the local R&D leadership team, regional and global business leadership, local and regional Finance, HR, Shared Services and Legal. Liaise with other critical functions to ensure appropriate management of Organon within ORD.

  • Ensure that all local laws and regulations are fully adhered to. Ensure that all internal policies are adhered to and ensure that the local business is always audit ready. Advise the ORD business on local market buying and contracting practices. It will ensure his/her team are compliant and up to date with all compliance regulations affecting the function.

  • Ensure professional and ethical management of the direct reports and all roles associated with the position. Adhere to all company HR policies and procedures as well as all local laws and regulations.

  • Ensure training, development, succession, and management plans are in place for all employees and that the team is appropriately sized and skilled.

  • Participate in leadership discussions and develop, manage, or support people-related plans for the R&D team. It will oversee the management of all external resources allocated to R&D and continuously assess their performance against stated SLAs.

  • Ensure that plans are in place to mitigate supplier related risk and that there are zero business interruptions due to supplier failure.

  • Provide support to other GPSM functions in ORD, including but not limited to working directly with the Quality, Sourcing and Systems organization with respect to risk management.

  • Utilizes outstanding project, program and change management skills to manage and drive change both internally and externally.

  • Ensure that company processes are fully adhered to and systems, such as SAP, e-Sourcing, etc. are fully utilized and work with the Strategic Sourcing and Vendor Management team within GS&S to provide support to other ORD functions with respect to process management.

  • Benchmarking and External affairs- Support and enable benchmark best practices, pricing, and supplier behaviors across the globe.

  • Provide the business with expertise on all aspects of the R&D supply market.

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of a college degree or equivalent.

  • JD (Juris Doctorate Lawyer licence) is a strong asset.

  • Preferred but not required: MBA

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 7+ years R&D category management experience.

  • Positive attitude with the ability to adapt and be flexible is an everchanging environment.

  • Sourcing and Procurement experience in a global environment.

  • People management experience.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Industry experience - working in a large Pharma or for a supplier to a large Pharma.

  • Procurement or Project Management certifications.

  • Experience in any of the following: M&A, integrations, spin offs, or start ups.

  • Experience working closely with Scientists and Doctors to understand their unique needs.
