Job Description

Ashley Furniture Trading Company, LLC has an opening for an International Product Designer in Arcadia, WI.

Stay abreast with current furniture design and marketing trends. Develop new product designs for international production based on objectives laid out by the VP of Design/Marketing and the Director of design. These new product designs regularly focus on case goods, dining room, occasional tables, home office and home entertainment products. Maintain a daily line of communication with the company’s design and sample teams based in Asia. Provide ongoing project updates when called upon. Make frequent visits to Ashley international liaison offices and international design teams, product engineers and manufacturers to ensure product specifications, quality, and construction standards suite company requirements. Research and review furniture trends and market information through marketing trips, visiting retailers, and communicating with company sales representatives. Identify furniture design projects to be developed based on directives set forth by the VP of Design/Marketing and Director of Design. Develop sketches and/or full-scale sample drawings for new product development. Send design drawings and any relevant supporting information to overseas liaison office for sample initiation. Review detailed drawings and images from overseas liaison office to ensure they are accurate, and that they meet the respective design objectives. Develop and/or make selections regarding hardware designs, finishes and fabric items for new furniture samples. Identify any engineering concerns and or potential manufacturing issues associated with new samples as they relate to design and quality assurance. Additionally, Travel to Asia to inspect key furniture samples and manufacturers/suppliers. Ensure samples comply with the company standards relating to quality wile meeting the requirements of the primary design objectives. Assure all samples are finalized, repaired, and prepped for furniture markets. Maintain complete and accurate records of all relevant communication, prior art, and design scope as related to design patent documentation. Serve as a company representative at furniture markets. Prepare product information presentations and to educate company sales representatives on new furniture introductions. Travel required: Domestic 25-50% and International 25-50% travel to Asia to inspect key furniture samples and manufacturers/suppliers. Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Job Requirements

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Furniture Design, Product Design, or related field, and six months of related experience.

Also must have work experience with:

· Experience with 3D modeling, Miro, AutoCAD, Lightroom, Photoshop, and photo rendering software;

· Experience reading, interpreting, and creating a work engineered blueprint;

· Experience with color panels and developing new finishes; creating a sample with that new finish;

· Experience with hardware design; and

· Asian manufacturing materials and processes; Asian trends and trend studies; and applying trend study data into product creation using Asian manufacturing materials and processes.
