Job Description:

Operations Manager

Level: P2

Join a team committed to a Mission!..

We are in search of an Operations Manager to join our Team.

You will be primarily responsible for coordinating Team Leidos’ (TL) planning for the deployment of stock held in our warehouses in support of military operations and major training events, both in the UK and globally. The role is based in Ministry of Defence (MoD) Abbey Wood, Bristol.

Are you ready for your next career challenge?

The Logistics Commodities & Services Transformation (LCST) Programme for the UK Ministry of Defence is a critical effort to enhance and improve the UK’s defence supply chain. The programme provides essential services such as storage and distribution for the MOD's materiel, including a global freight service and the procurement and inventory management of 70,000 commodity NATO Stock Number (NSNs).

Working together as Team Leidos we are helping to transform the UK's defence supply chain by providing an integration of a complex mixture of services, at low risk, using a modern suite of systems that will deliver one version of the truth. For the first time, the MOD will see the whole picture, as it is happening.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • React to often incoherent MOD demand signals by collating multiple sources of information into a single demand signal/supply solution which can be shared across TL and used to plan the warehouse and movement activities necessary to meet military operational requirements. This often involves engaging with both uniformed customers and internal TL divisions, such as the CSS (procurement) and SD&F (storage and distribution) areas of TL. The role is to cohere multiple aspects of a requirement so the customer gets what they need, when they need it, or else understands why that can’t occur, and alternative solutions can be offered. This function could involve a simple chasing down of a missing demand, or a more complex investigation into what went wrong, and why, and identifying a solution to the customer.
  • Represent Team Leidos in meetings with military customers, demonstrating commercial professionalism, capturing their requirements and influencing their planning in order to maximise the effectiveness of our support to them.
  • Coordinate planned and contingency (i.e. ‘what if’ planning) supply chain activities across Team Leidos in order to ensure that we are well prepared to meet known and unplanned military requirements. Examples include coordinating the packing and movement of 74,000 British Army helmets, and significant quantities of medical supplies, to Ukraine via Eastern European countries. Another example includes coordinating the movement of large numbers of Covid vaccines, with essential ancillary supplies, to British military garrisons across the world using both military Air Transport as well as commercial air freight outlets.
  • Work with military and commercial air and surface freight movement providers to plan the successful deployment of ISO containers and loose freight to worldwide destinations by commercial air, surface and sea movement outlets. This will involve tracking progress of important containers/freight and keeping customers updated on progress of same. An example of this includes tracking and reporting on the move of high-profile munitions and key military equipment from the UK to Ukraine via Eastern European countries.
  • Be prepared to provide Out of Hours support during periods of significant surge when operationally essential; to include shift work for a limited duration. For more extended periods, limited overtime may be approved.
  • Be prepared to deploy overseas in support of Team Leidos’ contribution to Total Support Force/Whole Force Support activities for MoD operations and exercises. This will always be after two to three months’ notice is given and likely deployment duration is 1 – 3 months. This is a rare occurrence but a fundamentally vital element of the job.
