Scientist - Bioreactor Operations and Technologies ( MERCUSR195714ENUS)

Therefore, the NJ work location for this role will be temporarily based and the exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.
We are seeking a motivated scientist/engineer to join the Bench Top Bioreactor Operations and Technologies (BBOT) group within Biologics Process Research and Development (BPR&D), as part of the team charged with supporting mammalian and microbial processes in small-scale bioreactors; and introducing innovative process technologies. Candidate is expected to work in a team atmosphere in close collaboration with bioprocess development scientists, facility engineering, lab automation and safety groups
Candidate will participate in a range of activities including, but not limited to:
Hands-on operation and troubleshooting of bench top bioreactors and fermenters for fed-batch and perfusion processes to aid in supporting our company's pipeline.
Evaluation and implementation of novel technologies and process analytical tools.
Work collaboratively with the pilot plant operations area, process development scientists, facility engineering and lab automation teams, as well as manufacturing colleagues.
Lead training and safety initiatives.
Participate in projects to advance team’s strategic initiatives.
BS in Chemical or related engineering/biology discipline with 3+ years relevant experience or MS
Required Experience and Skills:
Strong skills in laboratory experimentation, process monitoring and documentation
Solid scientific understanding and hands-on experience in cell culture and bench scale bioreactor operations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in cross-functional team environment
Participate in implementation of innovative solutions and advance pipeline projects
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Microbial fermentation lab or pilot scale experience
Demonstrated ability for independent execution of experiments
Experience operating and troubleshooting bioreactor systems and associated equipment
Experience with PAT lab applications
Publications/Presentations to external scientific forums
The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years of small scale and/or large scale bioprocess experience, including cell culture and/or microbial fermentation. Able to work well with others and communicate effectively both written and orally. Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Must be able to do some weekend work.
