What you'll be doing...

As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for implementation, maintenance and ongoing support for Verizon's Network. You will act as a technical liaison to the Engineering, Planning and vendor organizations to ensure supportability and reliability of our services. You will develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity. You will be a Subject Matter Expert for the Network with responsibility to provide escalations and technical support as needed.

Asa Senior Engineer, you will be part of the Unified Transport (UT) Tier II Support Team, focused on providing the iEN/UT NMC technical Tier 2 support (Layers 0-3). Developing solutions that drive the success of Verizon's bleeding-edge Networks and Platforms.

  • Providing technical Tier 2 support on the Unified Transport network.
  • Working projects for supporting network upgrades, resolution of complex network troubles including interaction with Maintenance Engineering and Vendors and Network Planning.
  • Engaging in network migration activities associated with rolling services to the new iEN and subsequent decommissioning of older networks over the coming years.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively in a lead role within a group/team environment to achieve department goals and objectives.
  • Providing expert judgment and subject matter expert-level analysis for the design, development, and implementation of new products and services.
  • Conducting advanced research to provide root cause analysis and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Finishing projects independently and meeting tight timelines with minimal supervision.
  • Embracing agile methodologies and leading the effort to transform the way we do operations by promoting a DevOps and Automation mindset.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to work rotating schedule (shifts) including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology.
  • Knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, QoS, Multicast, MPLS, IP Routing Protocols like ISIS, OSPF, BGP, L3VPN, L2VPN, Traffic Engineering using BGP and MPLS-TE.
  • Independent decision-making skills and the ability to clearly and concisely present technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in troubleshooting end to end network connectivity issues.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with a group of individuals in the industry with varying technical positions.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet Switching technologies and Protocols.
  • Experience in Python Scripting and Automation Experience.
  • Experience in Optical Transport Technologies - ULH and ROADM.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining Carrier Ethernet Switching.
  • Strong Scripting skills with Python, Perl and API experience.
  • Technological certifications.
