BMS Lab Computing Services (LCS) is an enterprise IT service responsible for the management and support of the computers associated with scientific instrumentation in laboratories. The critical nature of these systems requires the appropriate support to ensure a highly stable, secure, and reliable computing environment.

This role will provide support management of the lab computing (benchtop) environment, with primary responsibility for site leadership for lab computing functions at the Bothell, WA BMS location which is a critical part of the cell therapy manufacturing network.

Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, timely execution of work, collaboration with scientists, IT colleagues, and vendors are essential to ensure maximum productivity for the bench scientist as well as to ensure the integrity of both the laboratory data collected and the systems used to collect the data.

Responsibilities include:

Participate in and serve as technical lead for projects in support of laboratory computing for the Bothell site, collaborating with IT Staff and clients at cell therapy sites and BMS locations aligned with product development and manufacturing. Oversee the 24x7 operational shift work performed by lab computing support staff at the Bothell site; determine priorities within the operational activities and balance between the operations and project activities. Manage resources to balance the needs of the operational demands. Identify, research and prototype new technologies to streamline, facilitate & integrate laboratory operations in a reliable and secure manner, and to maximize the productivity of scientists. Develop an understanding of the organization and various business units LCS supports. Form strong relationships with scientists from different business areas, IT peers, and external partners working with BMS in support of the laboratory computing environment.

Work with Business Partner/Plan teams to understand priorities of each area of business at the Bothell site

Oversee both IT driven and business driven projects at the Bothell site

Regularly communicate with senior leadership

Collaborate with scientists, vendors, and IT colleagues on new systems implementation, integration and administration. Coordinate refreshes of benchtop systems ready for hardware or OS refresh

Participate in the installation, documentation, and testing of upgraded instruments. Deploy or update data management tools for backup and archive.

Support change control activities, validation activities, deviations, and CAPAs for the site Work with LCS Systems Management team to understand the benchtop imaging process, core benchtop suite of applications and systems management tools to be utilized on all systems. (Altiris Client Management Suite, Active Directory, Acronis/Veritas System Recovery etc.). Verify all standard tools are enabled for enabling security on the BMS network (VirusScan, Patching, etc.). Develop an understanding of the Laboratory Computing model to clearly articulate the service across your areas of support. Act as the decision maker when alternate solutions must be evaluated. Act as an escalation point to troubleshoot and assist in technical support of both instrument software installed on benchtops and connectivity between benchtop and instrument. This includes issue resolution for incidents escalated past tier 2 support and monitoring all incidents and requests at assigned sites in the service desk tracking tool.

Ensure adherence to corporate, site-specific, and business specific policies and procedures. Participate in SOP maintenance for Laboratory Computing Services owned SOPs and work instructions.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting scientific instrumentation in a GxP lab environment
  • Experience in computer system validation, CAPA and Deviation management, Change Management, Incident Management, and Request Management
  • Experience supervising and leading a team with an ability to work with both employees and contractors within a matrix management environment
  • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills using logical reasoning
  • Demand management skills - ability to manage multiple requests for work, engage with IT groups and the business to resource and prioritize.
  • Effectively balance tactical and strategic work
  • Preferred candidates would have experiences in one or more of these areas. Alternately, proven experience moving into a new area and adapting quickly
    • Installing, configuring, and supporting systems and applications in lab environments.
    • Administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of PC hardware and software in a Microsoft Windows /Active Directory environment.
    • An understanding of laboratory science in the pharmaceutical industry
    • Project management skills
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate a history of progressive growth in responsibilities, supported by examples of driving performance and/or improving processes. He/she should demonstrate an understanding of the need for standards yet also have a willingness to look for new, more effective strategies to support and improve the laboratory computing environment.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $121,000 - $152,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the where the job is performed.

Final individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
