As a member of the Optum Health Solutions Marketing team, the Senior Marketing Communications Specialist position is responsible for creating consumer centric, multi-modal communications to activate and engage consumers in Optum Health Solutions programs. This position will have direct involvement with Product and Operations teams and will help activate the consumer communications strategy, including metrics, for Optum Health Solutions products and programs.

Reports to the Director of Optum Health Solutions B2C Marketing Communications.

Primary Responsibilities:

Communication Strategy:

  • Assists in the activation of strategic plans for B2C marketing, building on existing programs, communications strategies, and touchpoints
  • Collaborates with product and operations partners to implement a 1:1 member communications strategy that engages members across the consumer journey, and that scales efficiently with product or population growth
  • Creates interest, relevance, and relationships with customers by distributing relevant and valuable content to inform and engage consumers with Optum’s products and offerings
  • Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements
  • Develops, manages, and maintains relationships with internal (product, sales, operations, legal, creative, etc.) and external stakeholders and keep them informed about marketing initiatives
  • Aligns and socializes collective objectives and detailed project plans for initiatives that cross over communications, marketing, corporate communications, and internal communications functions to ensure alignment and best impact
  • Monitors results and modifies strategy accordingly
  • Works with cross-program peers to support the coordination of integrated marketing efforts and share best practices

Execution and budget management

  • Manages a queue or backlog of new implementations and revisions to existing materials, delivering in an agreed-upon timeframe with business partners
  • Develops creative briefs, providing consumer positioning, as well as copy and design direction to creative staff
  • Develops and executes 1:1 member communication materials across print and digital channels, for an assigned roster of products and/or client
  • Ensures application of internal and external communications standards established for the business (e.g., branding standards/guidelines, internal style guides, naming conventions, CAN-SPAM laws, legal review, AP style guides, communications industry standards, health literacy.)
  • Delivers reporting on the necessary metrics to evaluate effectiveness of communication plans
  • Works with Operations and other internal partners to coordinate marketing efforts with impacted teams (i.e., call centers, marketing acquisition and engagement campaigns)
  • Support development of budgets to support recommended strategies; obtain budget approval and manage, track, and share ROI with leadership
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 3 years of marketing experience
  • 3 years of communications development, consumer product management and/or marketing work experience, including demonstrated execution of multi-media campaigns
  • Cross-functional project management experience, prioritizing several deliverables
  • Budget management and reporting
  • 3 years of communications/marketing experience within a matrix organization, deadline-driven environment and demonstrated organizational skills
  • 3 years of experience in Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Digital communication channel experience (email, nurture campaigns, website, and social media)
  • B2C communications experience
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Required Travel:

  • Up to 5% travel required for business purposes including team meetings (up to two per year) and other internal meetings
