Job Description

We are seeking an experienced leader with expertise in single cell sequencing to join the Genome Sciences team within the Department of Genome and Biomarker Science (GBx) at our Research & Development Division. Our mission is to utilize high-throughput cutting-edge technologies to better understand disease mechanism and to identify and validate new targets and biomarkers. Our group utilizes innovative multi-omics single cell (i.e., REAP-seq, TCR-seq, ATAC-seq, Perturb-Seq) and Spatial Transcriptomics (i.e., Visium, MERSCOPE, CosMx, Xenium) approaches to impact all stages of the drug development pipeline from pre-clinical to clinical development. Genome Sciences collaborates closely with the discovery therapeutic areas (i.e., oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and cardiometabolic disease), Quantitative Bioscience, and ChemBio groups within the Discovery, Preclinical and Translational Medicine (DPTM) organization to utilize these technologies to pursue key biological questions.

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for directing research strategy and managing a team of scientists focused on utilizing innovative multi-omics single cell sequencing strategies to help identify important targets, pathways, and biomarkers of disease across therapeutic areas.

The responsibilities of the candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership and management of a team of scientists with broad expertise in NGS, single cell and spatial multi-omics sequencing technologies

  • Collaborate closely with therapeutic areas and direct strategy to leverage high throughput cutting-edge multi-omics genomics technologies for maximal impact on the drug development pipeline

  • Demonstrated track record of sustained success in investigating novel biology as related to disease pathology and for identification and validation of new targets and biomarkers utilizing cutting edge genomic technologies

  • Lead efforts for the experimental design, analysis and interpretation of single cell and spatial sequencing experiments in support of discovery and preclinical research programs

  • Work closely with IT and bioinformatic groups across our Research & Development Division to communicate and coordinate data analysis needs such as establishing new bioinformatic pipelines or modifying existing pipelines to ensure timely analysis

  • Written and verbal communication of study results to project teams and leadership, including proposals for further experiments to validate key findings

  • Foster a high-performance culture of collaboration, engagement, self-accountability and inclusion

  • Establish strong relationships within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Ph.D. degree with 8+ years of post-graduate experience

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • A proven track record across a wide range of high throughput genomics technologies (i.e., multi-omics single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, Perturb-seq)

  • Expertise with multi-omics single cell sequencing data analysis, integration, and interpretation

  • Experience managing a group of scientists with a track record of achievements, driving group strategy, and leading projects

  • Highly self-motivated and capable of prioritizing deliverables among multiple simultaneous projects

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication (oral and written) skills

  • Ability to build strong relationships within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives
