Position Summary

The Executive Director, Worldwide Orencia Marketing and Immunology Commercialization Lead will serve as the leader accountable for maximizing the value of Orencia (abatacept) to improve the lives of patients around the world with Rheumatoid Arthritis and other immune-mediated diseases. This position is responsible for leading a team of cross-functional matrix partners and engaging with the local markets to develop and deliver the brand strategy that will continue to drive Orencia’s growth and performance. Additionally, the individual in this role will partner with R&D in support of Orencia additional evidence generation.

This role will build on the efforts within the markets and help BMS continue to drive Orencia as an important and foundational brand within the growing Immunology franchise. This role will engage with the Rheumatology community to support the continued investment in our biomarker strategy and global presence. The successful candidate will partner with HQ Medical, HQ Access, R&D functions, and country Business Unit/Marketing Heads to ensure that the global strategy is aligned, developed through market insights, and is actionable across various geographies. The leader must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization, with high expectations and accountability on quality of deliverables and ability to create an energizing, inclusive culture. The leader will also be a key advisor on BMS’s long-term RA and Rheumatology strategy.

In addition to Worldwide Marketing leadership for Orencia, this position also leads the Worldwide Immunology Commercialization Team with responsibility for driving the engagement model between the global and local market teams. This team is critical to ensuring effective translation of the global strategy to the markets and driving execution excellence with a specific focus on ensuring launch readiness and driving performance for our key our launch brands. This is a critical role given BMS’s ambition to be a leader in Immunology, the promising pipeline, and multiple potential near-term launches in the franchise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the worldwide brand planning across marketing, medical, and access, and long-range forecast for Orencia.
  • Leads assessments of competitive data and events, assesses emerging trends that could impact the brand, and identifies implications and integrates into brand strategy and plans.
  • Translates new brand evidence into brand strategy to maximize opportunities for Orencia in driving appropriate patient usage
  • Partners with opinion leaders, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders, external agencies/vendors to reinforce BMS commitment in Rheumatology and Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Co-leads with R&D, Medical and HEOR the continued evidence generation strategy and dissemination
  • Partners with WW Value, Access, and Pricing team as needed to enhance the value story
  • Partners with global supply organization to ensure availability of drug supply and minimize risks
  • Collaborates with local country Orencia leadership to ensure strategic alignment through market insights and analytics, and pressure-testing of affiliate marketing plans
  • Optimizes the Immunology commercialization model driving pull through of global launch strategies and execution excellence to the local affiliates for our Immunology launches
  • Communicates strategic vision for evolution of commercialization model and engages and influences stakeholder participation
  • Builds strong relationships with market leadership to identify opportunities for improvements in the Global to Market (G2M) process that support commercialization and launch excellence
  • Builds a deep understanding of local market dynamics, including customer and competitive insights, and growth opportunities to drive local market execution
  • Strong leader and developer of talent, with management of two direct reports

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA/BS required; life sciences degree or equivalent desirable. MBA / graduate degree highly preferred. 8-10 years of progressive industry experience and a minimum of 5 years required. Functional experience within Rheumatology / Rheumatoid Arthritis strongly preferred; experience with other immunology a plus. Scientific background / acumen highly preferred. Sales and marketing leadership should be demonstrated.
  • Prior experience in both operational marketing (US and / or ex-US) and global marketing roles is highly desirable.
  • Ability to critically assess opportunities with disciplined thinking to determine what is best for patients and our business, and to influence / build alignment with stakeholders is critical for success.
  • Individual should have a proven track record demonstrating breadth and depth of experience across marketing competencies and exemplary achievement of performance objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading strategically, communicating with impact, and creating a strong, inclusive, energizing culture is critical.
  • Experience in mobilizing matrix team members, embracing teamwork within a cross-functional environment will critical.
  • Prior people management experience with focus on developing team members to be their best and achieve their goals
