Modeling and Simulation Engineer ( R-00067641 )
The Electronic Warfare Division has multiple openings for Modeling and Simulation Engineers. Leidos is looking for experienced engineers with an Aerospace backgrounds to execute applied research and development for developing work in the King of Prussia, PA office. This is a technical engineering position to integrate, develop and maintain physics-based digital system performance models, perform numerical analysis, and support the design of advanced hypersonic weapons systems.
Be part of a close knit team and be mentored by world class experts. The Aerophysics branch operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm. Our engineers typically work directly with DOD personnel. Collaborate with members of a high performance technical team and customer stakeholders to determine study requirements and relevant technical approaches
Apply multi-disciplinary knowledge of aerothermodynamics, structures, material science, and sensing systems. Apply programming skills to create multi-physics system performance models. Develop and apply multi-fidelity computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics and heat transfer models for the analysis of high speed weapons systems. Perform system trade studies and mission analysis on advanced weapons systems. Analyze data from field and flight tests to validate models and simulations.
Leadership: The ability to independently execute a program, adjust to scope changes, and lead a team of 2-4 engineers.
Communication Skills: Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos, customers, team members and end users on technical, schedule, and cost performance, in both verbal and written methods.
Engineering Skills: Demonstrated experience with scripting to enable numerical codes to communicate and to run in a batch fashion (Python and C++) on DSRC and multi-core processors is required. Experience with one of the following disciplines is required:
CFD tools and analysis
Computational fluid dynamics for supersonic / hypersonic flows (CART3D, KESTREL, or US3D preferred)
Numerical gridding (Pointwise or similar)
Post processing CFD data
Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Sierra Tools)
EO/IR sensors, including propagation thru apertures and flowfield
Education: BS and 8+ or MS and 6+ years’ experience or a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (or similar) and4+ years’ experience.
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.
Demonstrated experience with Model Based System Engineering and Digital Engineering
Python Scripting, Object Oriented Programming
CART3D, KESTREL, US3D, FUN3D, CFD++
ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Sierra Tool suite
Experience with Artificial Neural Nets (TensorFlow, MATLAB tools)
Solidworks or similar CAD experience
Experience with MATLAB and/or Fortran
TRAVEL: Attend technical reviews, estimated < 10%
