Job Description

The Associate Vice President, US Hospital & Specialty Marketing Lead oversees marketing for Merck’s portfolio of growing hospital & specialty brands, currently valued at almost $2B in net sales. This chief marketing role guides a set of marketing teams driving growth and long term strategies for portfolio of products across antibiotic, c-difficile, anesthesia, HIV and antiviral therapeutic areas, maintaining a strong focus on compliance and ensuring Merck’s ethics and standards remain in place.

This position will be a key member of the US Hospital & Specialty management team, reporting to Kate Robinson, to help identify, prioritize and ensure execution of near term priorities and shape long term growth strategy & culture.

This individual will be accountable for supporting the continued evolution of the US market commercial transformation within the business unit and across the market; elements of transformation include business agility, use of data & analytics and improving customer engagement through digital and omni channel strategies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee development of US strategy and execution for hospital specialty brands

  • Prioritize investments, resources, and actions across teams to drive growth across the portfolio; guide the revenue and expense forecast processes for the business unit

  • Provide a strong vision and direction to marketing organization aligned to Merck’s strategic priorities, ways of working and value & standards

  • Guide and support commercial transformation through agile ways of working, quarterly business planning as well as other capabilities to improve customer experience e.g., use of data & analytics, marketing strategy framework and omni channel customer engagement

  • Actively engage in attracting and developing strong, results-oriented and diverse team

  • Responsible for assessing external customer & market evolution, impact on strategies, resourcing and capabilities in order to guide future needs of the business unit

  • Guide commercial input and decisions related to business development and early product planning

  • Partner with peers across enterprise (e.g., global marketing, account management, operations, policy, manufacturing, medical affairs, regulatory, outcomes research, communications, legal & compliance) to support commercial strategies and achieve our financial objectives for the hospital specialty portfolio

  • Participate in US Hospital Specialty management team to guide business unit objectives, commercial model decisions as well as talent & people development

Education:

  • Required: BA/BS

  • Preferred: MBA

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience including sales, marketing and managed care in US market

  • Proven success in marketing and/or strategy development as well as resource prioritization

  • Successful track record of people management and talent development

  • Experience guiding diverse teams in a solid line and/or matrix environment

  • Successful commercial experience overseeing brands or multiple teams across therapeutic areas

  • Demonstrated executive presence

Preferred Experience:

  • US marketing / market access experience

  • Digital marketing experience

  • Working in agile environment

  • Leading through challenges and change management

  • Hospital and/ or specialty market experience and understanding
