Summary, Focus and Purpose

Under the direction of a Utilities Engineering Manager, the Utilities Energy Center Lead Technician provides utilities maintenance support to all Utilities and Facilities equipment, processes and sub-systems and takes appropriate action to correct operational maintenance problems. Responsible for carrying out our Manufacturing Division and site mission by assuring the quality of products and services are of the highest quality, optimal cost, and delivered on schedule. Responsible for continuing improvement in all aspects of the operation. Must be able to function in a team-based culture and operate in an empowered environment. Identifies and demonstrates a working knowledge of customers, suppliers and their requirements and seeks ideas and information on how to improve customer service involving internal and external customers. Applies knowledge of the overall supply chain to efficiently complete work tasks. Applies knowledge of key business processes in their functional areas to complete daily work tasks and adheres to the highest level of data integrity in all activities.

Under the direction of Utilities Engineering Manager, sets up, adjusts, repairs, and maintains all Utilities and Facilities equipment. Conducts calibrations and maintains industrial instrumentation standards and carries out industrial maintenance functions in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and prepares technical documentation on as needed basis. Participates in the establishment and improvement of new and existing utilities equipment and provides technical specifications and information to PE&S, Utilities Project Engineers, and other of our Manufacturing Division requestors. Primary focus will involve maintaining process equipment by developing and completing PM's, instrument calibrations, installing new equipment, completing validation protocols, documenting work using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS - SAP) and other duties as requested by the Utilities Engineering Manager.

Key Functions

  • Set-up, changes over, and adjusts all Utilities and Facilities equipment according to current SOP’s

  • Conducts frequent inspection checks and regular maintenance on utilities systems (i.e., boilers, chillers, air compressors, etc.) and related valves, gauges, piping and other equipment

  • Maintain proper functioning of steam generation, compressed air, hot water, potable water, treated water and other systems

  • Use knowledge of water chemistry to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and service equipment

  • Maintain monitoring of utilities generated and used by Energy Center and supporting site operations

  • Working in conjunction with all appropriate personnel, completes manual and automated operations, general maintenance and support functions necessary to support the Utilities and Facilities equipment and systems

  • Handles general maintenance and assists or ability in troubleshooting of equipment independently

  • Disassembles and inspects parts and equipment to determine the cause of improper operations and makes a repair through the use of replacement parts and machine fabrications as well as reassembling equipment with new or repaired parts

  • Cleans and lubricates machines periodically and completes other maintenance work required to assure the efficient operation of all equipment

  • Identifies the root cause of equipment malfunctions occurring while equipment is in operation and whenever possible repairs and adjusts the equipment in a manner which will result in the minimum production delay

  • Identifies and addresses compliance, environmental, safety and process deviations as appropriate while notifying appropriate personnel

  • Self-motivated to maintain own training status and ability to train others

  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerning operation of equipment and mechanical condition of equipment

  • Maintains positive interaction and teamwork with other maintenance mechanics as well as Operators, Engineers, and other local and remote our Manufacturing Division plant site personnel

  • Adheres to all Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) and quality procedures

  • Maintains good housekeeping in the work area

  • Consistently demonstrates ability to troubleshoot equipment, including patient analysis of equipment problems and perseverance in applying a solution

  • Must be able to participate in and/or provide direct specialized training to any of our Manufacturing Division employee requiring it

  • Uses technical information, reads and interprets drawings, diagrams, and schematics, and carries out maintenance troubleshooting and repairs

  • Completing assignments in conformance with appropriate Regulatory (GMP's) and department standard operating procedures which assure the quality of our products and processes

  • Drives work in a safe manner following identified safety procedures and using applicable safety equipment

Shift

  • Night Shift | Twelve Hour Rotation (Example: 2 days on 2 Days off, 3 days on 2 Days off, 2 days on 3 days off)

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent with five years industrial maintenance experience or two year technical degree with three years maintenance experience or equivalent

Experience | Skills | Knowledge

Required

  • Primary knowledge in the industrial maintenance environment

  • Principled verbal and written communications

  • Prior Utilities Equipment (i.e., boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, etc.)

  • Mechanical and electrical trouble shooting skills are essential and must possess these skills to be effective in this area without further skills training

  • Able to read electrical prints and P&ID control loops

Preferred

  • Water systems, chemical treatment and chemical water testing

  • SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management System
