Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

We are seeking a protein biochemist at the Senior Scientist level who will use their skills to determine the in vitro effects of protein coding variants identified from the sequencing of hundreds of thousands of humans spanning a wide array of disease states. This position is in the Validation and Function group of the Novartis Biologics Center based in Cambridge, MA, USA. The purpose of our group is to identify and validate new targets for biologics-based therapies by using human genetics. Human genetic validation of a drug target doubles the chance of clinical success. For this position, an independent scientist will use their skills in protein biochemistry to investigate the impact of genetic coding variants, derived from internally available genetic and clinical databases, on protein biogenesis, behavior, and function.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Independently design and perform experiments with a high degree of complexity, demonstrating expertise in a wide range of techniques related to both soluble and membrane protein biochemistry (e.g., site-directed mutagenesis, cell line generation, recombinant protein construct design, expression in mammalian and microbial-based host cell systems, liquid chromatography and liposome-based protein purification, Western blotting, ELISAs)
•Be a self-starter and independently develop projects in collaboration with departments within the larger NIBR organization.
•Design and execute protein-based stability and functional assays
•Work collaboratively with others in the group and project team member
•Communicate directly with project teams to design and execute experiments, and subsequently present and discuss results
•Generate hypotheses to test, troubleshoot issues, design and execute the next set of experiments with the input from senior team members or manager
•Document the results in a detailed manner in an electronic laboratory journal and in internal databases
•Contribute to report writing and publications
•Present research updates and participate constructively in working project teams and at laboratory group meetings

[#video#https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIxJdzIn0mE{#400,300#}#/video#]
