Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to fill a postdoctoral fellowship position in the Department of Cardiometabolic Disease (CMD) at our company's Research Laboratories in South San Francisco, California. This is an exciting opportunity to conduct basic research in an industrial setting and meanwhile learn about drug discovery in a top-notch pharmaceutical company. The successful candidate will work in our state-of-the-art facilities, collaborate with scientists with different research background, and employ appropriate in vitro and in vivo techniques to investigate pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms of metabolic disorders. The research focus of the perspective postdoctoral fellow will be important but unresolved questions in metabolic research, which leads to publications in profession journals and presentations in scientific conferences. The individual will also be exposed to the drug discovery process and gain experience and knowledge in contemporary drug discovery.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The successful candidate should have a clear career goal and be self-motivated.

  • The candidate is expected to be able to work productively in a collaborative environment within and outside of the CMD department.

  • The individual is expected to show a high degree of independence and can design, plan, and execute experiments in the laboratory.

  • The individual is expected to analyze experimental results with suitable statistical methods and interpret the results appropriately.

  • The individual is expected to summarize experimental results for presentations at internal and external meetings and for publication in scientific journals.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidates must currently hold a PhD or receive a PhD by fall, 2022.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in metabolism, immunology, fibrosis, or a related field

  • Possessing technical proficiency, scientific rigor, and productivity evidenced by publications in scientific journals

  • Proven ability to solve complex problems by undertaking innovative approaches and applying advanced technologies

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and being able to work collaboratively

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: metabolic disease, fibrotic disease, lipid metabolism, lipidomics, and immunometabolism

  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: common molecular biology techniques, cell culture and cell-based assays, and animal experiments

  • Knowledges in statistics and using appropriate software for data analysis

  • Experience in working with omics dataset is a plus
