Vice President of Research
Kean University has been named a Professional/Doctoral University by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, reflecting the University’s increased number of doctoral programs offered and degrees awarded, and Kean’s strong commitment to research. Our recently upgraded status brings us one step closer to being designated as an R2 Research University under the Carnegie Classification and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is in an exciting transition at this time. As we endeavor to reach Carnegie R2 research status, ORSP is being restructured and will be reporting to the Vice President of Research, under the direction of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice President of Research serves as the chief research officer of the University and is responsible for the planning, development, administration and advocacy of all aspects of research, scholarship and creative activities aligned with the university’s mission and strategic plan. This position oversees and supports research engagement by students, faculty and staff, and promotes academic excellence and entrepreneurial initiatives across all instructional sites. The Vice President works closely with the Provost, as well as other members of the President’s Cabinet on all research and research-related entrepreneurial activities. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited university with an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree; a minimum of five (5) years of significant and successful administrative experience in a comprehensive university/college with a diverse student population; and a highly distinguished record of university/college teaching, research and service or the equivalent as determined by the university is required.
