Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Interaction Designer at IBM Research on the Product Incubation team, you'll be contributing to converting early-stage technologies into real-world impact through a user-centered approach. You will design experiences that translate complex AI technologies into delightful, intuitive, and compelling prototypes to accelerate the lab-to-market pipeline.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Design the user experience of digital tools to explore potential applications of IBM Research AI technologies.

  • Translate the complexity of early-stage technologies into intuitive and compelling solutions.

  • Design and demonstrate detailed interaction design through storyboards, mock-ups, and clickable prototypes in Figma.

  • Create prototypes applying the IBM Design language, through applying and extending the IBM Carbon Design System.

  • Collaborate with other UI/UX designers to define end-to-end detailed interfaces and interactions.

  • Collaborate with design researchers to understand user needs and iterate on user experiences based on user feedback collected.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand constraints and requirements and provide creative solutions.



Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Design or a related field.

  • At least 8 years of experience designing interactive digital experiences.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, product managers, and design researchers.

  • Proficiency working with Figma.

  • Ability to communicate UX concepts to different audiences to advocate for user-centered solutions.

  • Expertise designing AI applications or other highly technical experiences.

  • Portfolio showcasing projects with complex and technical requirements (as in software design).



Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Experience applying and extending design systems.

  • Knowledge of Carbon Design System.

  • Interest in Generative AI technologies.

  • Experience analyzing usability tests.

  • Experience working with AirTable.

  • Experience working with Github and ZenHub, in collaboration with developers.

  • Experience with data visualization.

  • Experience designing for developers.

For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
