Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly driven and motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the Materials & Biophysical Characterization group within Analytical Research & Development. This individual should be passionate about chemical crystallography, with an interest in developing a supramolecular toolkit for molecular structure determination. Their project will involve the utilization of porous organic frameworks for the encapsulation of target molecules with the goal of molecular structure determination by X-ray diffraction. The encapsulation technologies will deliver innovative and convenient methods for structure determination for molecules that otherwise cannot be crystallized, including precise stereochemical assignment. The successful candidate would explore the use of encapsulation methodologies to develop a workflow targeting small molecules.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Crystallization and encapsulation of small molecules within porous organic frameworks.

• Growing single crystals and solving structures from X-ray diffraction experiments.

• Troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation as needed.

• Collaborate closely with external academic institutions and partners.

• Leverage traditional and advanced physical characterization techniques to rapidly assess guest encapsulation prior to structure elucidation.

• Interpret and present data to internal and external partners.

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional and technical experts to facilitate scientific success.

• Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific meetings.

• Ensure that safe laboratory practices are followed.

Education Minimum Requirement:

• Candidates must currently hold a PhD OR receive a PhD by Fall 2022. Preferred educational background includes but is not restricted to Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Pharmaceutics, Physical Chemistry, or related field.

Required Experience and Skills:

• X-ray crystallography experience.

• Familiarity with refinement software packages, such as ShelX, OLEX2, etc.

• Experience with growing single crystals and crystallization.

• Proven ability to independently design and execute experiments, interpret data, and identify appropriate follow-up studies.

• Track record of adaptability, creativity, critical thinking, innovation, integrity, and teamwork.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

• Strong track record of scientific achievement (publications, patent, etc.) and effective writing skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience with porous organic frameworks including metal organic framework, hydrogen-bonded organic framework, covalent organic framework, etc.

• Benchtop synthetic experience.

• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment with a strong communication skills.

• Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
