The Data Strategy & Partnerships group in the Center for Observational and Real-world Evidence (CORE) is seeking a motivated and talented data science intern. Our group uses data sciences and informatics to contribute to the development, exchange, and communication of real-world evidence that demonstrates the value of our company's pharmaceuticals and vaccines and provides our customers (payers, providers, patients, policymakers) with transformative insights.

The intern will work on one or more projects to develop innovative deep learning algorithms and workflows to analyze large-scale electronic medical records and apply them to interesting and impactful business questions. The intern will gain experience in real-world data (RWD) analysis and deep learning and have the opportunity and freedom to choose specific business areas and questions to learn and focus on. A manuscript for peer-reviewed publication and/or an open-source package will be expected at the end of the 10- or 12-week internship.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a PhD degree program in a relevant field (Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, etc. )

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Candidates should have a track record of developing and/or applying machine learning methods to answer biomedical questions, e.g. publications, blog articles, GitHub repositories, Kaggle competitions, etc.
  • Candidates should have an understanding of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) techniques
  • Candidates should have experience with Python and Pytorch
  • Candidates should have experience with or interest and ability to quickly learn R and SQL
  • Candidates should have experience with or interest and ability to quickly learn real-world evidence (RWE), RWD analysis, medical terminology and coding, and OMOP common data model.
