Job Description

In April 2020, our Company announced plans to consolidate our New Jersey campuses into a single New Jersey headquarters location in Rahway, NJ in 2023 and 2024. Therefore, this role will be temporarily based in Kenilworth and exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.

Our Development team ensure production can be scaled up whilst remaining stable, effective, deliverable and safe. Following formulation, cutting edge computer modelling techniques are used to simulate outcomes and, if successful, PKPD and toxicity studies bring the science one step closer to giving hope to patients.

The Biologics Technical Operations Engineering (BTO-Eng) group is looking expand its automation capabilities to support the changing processes and increased reliance on automation within the Biologics Process Research & Development (BPR&D) Department.

The Associate Director position will provide process automation leadership and support within BPR&D Pilot Plant. This position will have a primary focus on the RY-BDC project leading all automation aspects including design, construction, commissioning, and qualification activities. The individual will need to be able to effectively communicate and coordinate with different teams of people including scientists, other automation teams, and outside vendors in order to onboard new technologies, facilitate tech transfer, and ensure efficient operations. Communication, organization, and solid controls experience will be critical in success at this role.

The ideal candidate will be able to immediately step in and provide operational support to controls and automation activities throughout the facility. They will be joining process development teams tasked with developing our new CM lines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate and lead on automation tasks for the RY-BDC Pilot Plant. Efforts including design, construction, and commissioning phases of the project.

  • Work with Quality to develop and execute qualification activities in the new GMP suite for the RY-BDC pilot plant.

  • Establish GxP systems in the facility: Change Management, Maintenance protocols, Calibration procedures, Training, and SOPs for all GxP automation systems.

  • Work with the project team to identify, purchase and qualify new equipment.

  • Own and manage GxP support applications such as MES, LabX, etc.

  • Coordinate knowledge transfer on Continuous Manufacturing automation operations between automation teams on several sites.

  • Develop and maintain SDLC documentation.

  • Actively working in a multi-discipline project team environment

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, science, or computer discipline or equivalent practical experience of at least 7 years of experience in automation controls

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Effective oral / written communication skills

  • Experience with DeltaV process control systems. Relevant training and experience with Implementation and Batch.

  • At least 5 years of experience in an Automation or Engineering function for Biologics, Food, Medical Devices, or Pharmaceutical industries

  • Proven experience with development and implementation of industrial controls such as SCADA (Wonderware, iFix), PLC applications (Siemens, Allen Bradley), DCS (Delta V), Historian (PI)

Expected salary range:

$130,960.00 - $206,200.00
