Director, Discovery Analytical Research ( MERCUSR107092ENUS)
The Director, Discovery Analytical Research (DAR) Lead is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership for analytical capabilities across our analytical organization’s discovery-facing network. This includes chromatography, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy capabilities for drug discovery with an emphasis on high throughput experimentation and invention of new enabling platforms and technologies to benefit partners across discovery research and early process development.
The Director reports to the Executive Director, Analytical Enabling Technologies and will be directly responsible for a team of 10-15 senior scientists. The position is accountable for delivering analytical methodologies and platforms that may accelerate the pace of discovery research and influence molecular design in our small molecule and biologics discovery portfolios. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate in a dynamic, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment which bridges from early discovery research toward a line of sight to clinical scale manufacturing. The incumbent must have the ability to set strategy and drive implementation of novel capabilities across our organization.
The incumbent will be responsible for the recruiting, appraisal and development of personnel under her/his supervision. The Director selects, trains, and effectively recommends transfers, merit increases, promotions, and closures of personnel under her/his direction within the framework of Company policy. The role will also be responsible for proactive resourcing planning, risk assessment strategies and budget management as necessary.
Maintaining a strong external network across the academic community is expected, as well as advancing an internal culture of scientific excellence and collaboration, and this will be a core responsibility for the role.

PhD in Analytical Research or a related field with at least 7 years of industrial experience
Creative problem-solving in scientific research
Excellent written and verbal communication
Demonstrated capability to lead people and cross-functional teams
Strength in delivering results on firm deadlines in support of pharmaceutical discovery and development
