Job Description

Our Global Safety & Environment team is passionate about bringing our medicines and vaccines to our customers around the world, while ensuring that our environment and our neighbors are not impacted. Our Environmental Risk Assessor will support both regulatory needs and company initiatives on issues related to Pharmaceuticals in the Environment, the Environmental Dimensions of AMR, and chemical hazards. This role reports into Director, Product Stewardship.

Position Description:

Associate Director, Environmental Risk Assessment

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Serve as the company expert in environmental risk assessment providing leadership and applying scientific knowledge in a practical, innovative and strategic manner in support of the company’s business objectives.

  • Accountable for maintaining and delivering Environmental Risk Assessments (ERAs) and supporting data for the portfolio of our Human Health products.

  • Manage business relationship(s) with external environmental and ecotoxicology labs. Authorize and direct environmental and ecotoxicology testing programs, including testing to support environmental assessments for new drug applications and new chemical notifications, ranging from development of testing protocols through review of final reports and regulatory dossiers.

  • Author and maintain ownership of core product documents (e.g., environmental risk assessments; environmental quality criteria monographs), as well as develop and maintain relevant sections of Safety Data Sheets.

  • Support chemical hazard assessments for sites related to potential exposures (air, water, soil, etc.) to off-site receptors.

  • Partner with the business and policy leaders to develop and implement the company’s strategic direction on future-driven initiatives impacting environmental strategy including Antimicrobial Resistance and Pharmaceuticals in the Environment.

  • Proactively provide regulatory and technical support for new process and product development and manufacturing sites in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Science degree or equivalent (MS or PhD) in environmental science and/or related fields

  • Minimum 5-year experience conducting environmental risk assessments

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Experience in managing budgets, small projects and/or deliverables to tight timelines

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams

  • Effective English writing and communication skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in environmental fate testing/ or chemistry/ or experimental ecotoxicology/ or regulatory environmental risk assessment

  • Experience in, or a good understanding of, the principles of GLP, possibly having experience as a Study Director and/or Principal Investigator and/or Study monitor

  • Good analytical skills and ability to interpret data

  • Modeling expertise in environmental fate or effects

  • Experience or understanding of the science and regulations around pharmaceuticals (or other chemicals) in the environment

  • Certification in environmental risk assessment such a SETAC Certified Risk Assessor (CRA) or International Board of Environmental Risk Assessor (IBERA) diplomate

Under New York City law, the Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$106,600.00-$181,400.00
