An opportunity has arisen for a Director of Data Science in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Supply (PSCS) Organization. The role will be essential in establishing and ensuring our organizations realization of our digital transformation strategy. Further, the successful candidate will provide centralized support and expertise to teams across our Company Research Laboratories. Our projects focus on key areas of interest to multiple teams: implementing modern digital solutions for research and development and plant operations, platform development using modern architecture, building end-to-end solutions to capture, contextualize, and generate insights from data, and establishing best practices to provide solutions to otherwise intractable problems faced by the business. Our team ensures the scientific community at our Company is well-positioned to rapidly meet the challenges encountered within modern pharmaceutical sciences and clinical supply organizations. In this role you will work with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and IT to broadly shape and lead our identification and internalization of tools to create, capture, ingest, integrate, and consume data across various domains supporting PSCS. You will apply state of the art platforms to build and deploy operational solutions that span the scientific, executional, compliance, and operations spaces. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintain tools to support our clinical manufacturing sites (including the FLEx center), building bespoke tools to support decision making and KPI tracking across our division, supporting the development of strategies for digital transformation across PSCS, working with IT to build a development model and support production solutions as a business owner, identifying and evaluating the impact of state of the art digital solutions within PSCS, supporting a culture of rapid prototyping and experimentation, and supporting change management through training with end-users. You will be engaged in and lead cross-department initiatives. Systems for manufacturing execution, laboratory data, workflow execution, IOT and cloud computing, resource and materials forecasting, self-service data visualizations, low- and no-code programming, and KPI tracking are all in scope of this role.
Reporting into the Pharmaceutical Operations and Clinical Supplies Organization (POCS) the successful candidate will bring energy, knowledge, innovation to carry out the following:
Lead interactions with the scientific and operations functions to identify, catalogue, develop and characterize use cases and value generating opportunities for the respective business areas
Take inputs directly from end-users and build customized solutions to meet their digital needs
Evaluate, prioritize, and plan the staged execution of digital projects
Map prototype, pilot and production tools to relevant data and business domains establishing and maintaining a digital technologies landscape for PSCS
Manage and report on a portfolio of projects
Independently and in teams build, test, and deploy end-to-end solutions
Serve as a subject matter expert on end-to-end solutions, cloud computing, systems architecture, and digital tools within the relevant domains
Build, develop, and grow the availability and accessibility of contextualized data for both our data science staff and our functional area staff via training, coaching, and mentoring
Drive and support a self-service data science mindset in our organization
Participate in development and execution of our organizational digital strategy
Deliver on organizational initiatives and projects
Develop tools to gather and capture voice-of-the-customer, user stories, acceptance criteria for digital tools
Determine criteria to evaluate and act on feedback for pilot solutions from end-users
Assess modern digital tools and their product roadmaps for fitness within the relevant domains – when relevant work with vendors to better align roadmaps to our Company business needs
Help operationalize digital tools across the organization, provide guidance and training to data scientists and engineers alike
Work with IT to identify development and support models for new, existing, and legacy tools
In order to excel in this role, you will more than likely have:
A PhD with a minimum of 8 years’ experience, 12 years’ (for MSc) or 14 years’ (for BSc) in data science, digital strategy development, software architecture
Demonstrated delivery of computerized solutions to large groups of stakeholders
Education and or related experience in the physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Material Sciences, pharmaceutical sciences).
Demonstrated experience with the mechanics of digital product development models, digital strategy development, data governance, database architecture
Expertise in cloud-based IT solution building and architecture design. Advanced working knowledge of cloud-based technology stacks (AWS, Databricks). AWS Certified is preferred.
Expertise in data engineering, data science, and statistical modeling and analysis, and coding (Advanced Python and related programming skills, SQL, R, …)
Expertise in IoT, security, connected data (graph), BI, microservice, and UI/UX design elements.
Experience of team building, people management and personnel development/coaching, directing, or managing small to medium projects and teams, with ability to give effective training and presentations to DS and engineers.
Experience bridging the gap between engineering and data science groups, with clear understanding of setting group goals and delivering on business targets.
Exposure with pharmaceutical formulation development, and characterization is a plus.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected salary range:
