Job Summary:

Suvi is hiring a talented Technical Writer to support the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs (ASPA). Ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of developing clear, effective messaging/content in public health or scientific domain. Job Responsibilities

  • Select the most effective approach and develop clear and effective messaging that communicates specific messages important to achieving client objectives, tailored to the intended audience.
  • Assist in defining the intended audience and determining the most appropriate method of presentation, including reviewing, and advising on content of written materials and establishing the most appropriate writing style and layout and design for the intended audience.
  • Provide a full range of editorial support to professional staff on a variety of written materials, including user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports.
  • Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, and any other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Follow the HHS Plain Writing and Clear Communications guide and ensure that the writing is clear, concise, grammatically correct, well-organized, free of jargon, and otherwise consistent with the principles of good composition.
  • Analyze written materials in terms of conformity to required style, organization, and manner of presentation, and reorganizes and revises text as necessary.
  • Review materials for accuracy of terminology, completeness, and effectiveness in the presentation of textual, tabular, and graphic materials, completeness of reference citations, and other editorial requirements
  • Facilitate the documents review and approval process, from draft to final.
  • Maintain and update the resource library.
  • Engages in on-going analysis of operational services to identify and report on patterns / trends and recommend solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participate in administrative operations to determine the adequacy of present processes and procedures to improve organizational operations.
  • Assists the program office in the timely completion of projects or activities of an urgent nature.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in English, Technical Writing, or related discipline)
  • 7 years of relevant experience supporting federal government.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated, strong writing/editing/proofreading skills (must have excellent grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in which priorities shift quickly with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess practical knowledge of the Federal Regulations, Executive Orders and Directives and as well as Government-specific regulations related to the role.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time (must be local to National Capital Region or willing to travel on short notice).
  • Must be willing to provide sanitized writing samples and supervisory/professional references.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Direct, hands-on experience with HHS and systems/processes including EPLC. Or in public health domain.
  • Experience supporting federal public affairs function.
