Summary, Focus and Purpose

Our 3D Technologies enterprise team operates as a business partner for raised challenges and problems to propose ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. Our mission statement is to democratize inventing and make it easy and accessible to anyone at our company. We collaborate internationally across the globe to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation. This role will provide support for our Dev & Ops for our Co-Inventing product line.

Our 3D Technologies enterprise team operates as a business partner for raised challenges and problems to propose ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. Our mission statement is to democratize inventing and make it easy and accessible to anyone at our company. We collaborate internationally across the globe to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation. This co-op/intern role will be focused on improving our internal lab and operational efficiencies, and testing and qualifying existing and new equipment to support existing and new engineering applications.

In this role, the co-op/intern will be primarily focused on:

Building 3D printers

  • Build prosumer grade 3D printers to expand our fleet, such as a Voron or Ratrig
  • Perform upgrades to improve speed, reliability and versatility
  • Qualify new printers into service and help outline processing conditions to ensure equipment meets minimum quality controls

Repair and upgrade existing printers

  • Identify root cause of print failures across a fleet through systematic analysis
  • Perform upgrades to improve speed, reliability and versatility

Continuous improvements and automation

  • Identify workflows in lab Dev & Ops and 3D printing production for improvement opportunities
  • Execute on improvement activities, including CAD design, manufacturing and implementation/training of work aids/jigs/devices
  • Identify and document equipment failures and part defects to improve or expand our Quality Control checks and Go-NoGo inspections

This role will be a primarily onsite, with an expectation for onsite attendance of 4-5 days per week.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Candidate must be currently pursuing degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in an academic program and returning to university following this co-op assignment to complete credit requirements for graduation
  • Candidate must be available for full time employment for a period of 6 months in Apr2024 – Sep2024

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of some of the following: optical microscopy, hardness testing, and tensile testing
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printers
  • 3D CAD
