ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF)The equity-focused Research Analyst has an integral role in supporting the efforts of senior Investment Research team members, as well as advising client portfolio managers and traders. This includes the entire range of research skills such as screening new ideas, modeling potential outcomes, and challenging team members in a professional manner. Responsibilities will include the financial analysis of marketable securities across the capital structure; conducting investment research including reading and reviewing sell-side research reports and company filings, as well as interacting with both sell-side analysts and corporate management; creating models/spreadsheets and assisting in preparing valuation and screening reports; participating in the preparation of market commentaries; maintaining a number of proprietary lists of securities; supporting requests for information from client portfolio managers; and other projects/responsibilities as determined by the Managing Director of Equity & Fixed Income Research.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS• Provide adequate and timely due diligence prior to the implementation of any investment under consideration by either the Investment Research or portfolio management teams. The response time by the analyst is market sensitive.• Gain a working understanding of the applicable accounting practices utilized in the performance of reviewing financial statements – including corporations, financial institutions and municipal entities – per assignment by the Managing Director of Equity & Fixed Income Research.• Apply knowledge of mathematics and statistics in the performance of research duties with a working understanding of regression analysis and basic statistical methods.• Participate in conference calls conducted by both sell-side analysts and subscribed third-party research service providers, as well as presentations provided by corporate management teams of companies being considered for purchase or already held on the investment platform.• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Word and Excel in daily activities, as well as the ability to use Bloomberg and S&P's Capital IQ.• Prepare and apply financial forecasts, comparable company analyses and relative valuation models to identify opportunities.• Prepare and participate in presentations to investment strategy teams and clients as required.• Clearly document written and oral communication flow related to both opportunities and concerns with investment decisions.• Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Equity & Fixed Income Research.• Assist in gathering and analyzing macro, industry, and company level data to identify trends in order to develop market views of fundamentals and evaluate opportunities and risks.• Produce timely and relevant research on specific companies, general trends, and sector related matters that are viewed as thorough, high quality, insightful and focused.• Grow network of contacts in relevant fields that will assist the team in discovering new opportunities and enhancing client perception while expanding relationships with prospective investors and, where appropriate, developing media exposure.• Satisfy regulatory and compliance requirements while seeking to outperform compulsory service level agreements, exemplifying a service first attitude.• Deliver exceptional critical thinking and problem solving ability while addressing complex and timely market events.• Demonstrate the ability to work closely with a small team, as well as more broadly across the organization, where fluid information-sharing is critical to the success of teams across asset classes.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics.• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment driven by market investment conditions.• Must be a highly motivated self-starter; be an independent thinker and intellectually curious.• Ability to work independently with strong problem solving and analytical skills.• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.• Must display a commitment to learning and developing relationships in support of departmental objectives and goals. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • 2-3 Years of relevant investment experience.• Progress toward either the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation.• Familiarity with Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ or other financial modeling applications.• Familiarity with Python or R is desirable, but not required.
