The Information Technology team at our Company's Research and Development division (R&D) is looking for a Technical Lead for its R&D Data Hub product. As a part of Development Data Consumption product line, R&D Data Hub serves as a centralized access point for Regulatory, Clinical, Safety and Quality drug development data. Reporting into the Product Manager of R&D Data Hub, this position will provide technical leadership to the Data Hub Engineering team and will partner with other Development Data Consumption product line Engineering teams to enable critical IT capabilities that drive business value across Clinical & Real-World Evidence and Go to Market/Sustain on Market value teams.

As part of R&D IT Transformation, we are making significant investments to modernize our key systems that support clinical to sustain on market lifecycle of our products. We consider R&D Data hub as a key enabler by becoming source of data to support dependent IT solutions with data for both legacy and new systems.

To be successful in this role, the Technical Lead will possess a broad base of skills and knowledge spanning cloud technology, data engineering, data warehouse design and agile development practices. This role requires a result-oriented individual that can lead the design, development, and implementation of solutions that meets defined business needs and adheres to standards and principles set forth by Value team architects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of data ingestion, transformation, profiling, cleaning, presentation, and extraction features and functionality for a cloud-based data platform.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, enterprise Data & Analytics leads, engineers, and project managers to deliver solutions.
  • Build solutions that maximize common architecture patterns approved by the Architecture team.
  • Participate in assessing innovative and existing technologies, using rapid prototyping approaches to evaluate innovations and ensure new products and services that can integrate into steady stand operations.
  • Design and construct future- and current-state data platform models to practically apply new and emerging technologies to drive them.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, project, and product teams to ensure consistency with the data architecture, as well as to identify when it is vital to modify the data architecture.
  • Design, lead, and direct the process, verification, and resolution of incident, recovery, and post-mortem management processes.
  • Provide support to investigate complex production data issues which cannot be resolved by production support teams.
  • Proactively participate in defining system design, system, and user acceptance testing, and ensure completion of required GxP and Company's Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) documentation. Ensure development activities are conducted in compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Technically mentor junior data engineers.


  • B.S. in computer science/engineering or related field.


  • 4 + years working experience as a Technical Lead/or Architect.
  • 6 + years of working experience with data management, data warehouse/data lake design, data modeling concepts, ETL Tools, advanced SQL, and Python programming.
  • 4+ years of working experience in building and supporting Cloud Data solutions, preferably AWS.


  • Experience with ETL technologies, SQL, Data Management & Analytics platforms.
  • Experience with data handling, processing, harmonization, and standardization.
  • Will have demonstrated background in Data Management technologies and with business analysis.
  • Deep familiarity with big data, storage, processing, management technology, and cloud-based implementations at scale.
  • Background working with on-prem, cloud-based, and hybrid data infrastructure.
  • Ability to drive, contribute to, and communicate solutions to technical product challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.


  • Strong understanding of AWS components & architecture, ETL (StreamSets), Airflow and APIs, File share technologies for consumer applications.
  • Experience coding with Scala and Pyspark.
  • Familiarity of Bitbucket for storing the Application Code.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and DevOps concepts/tools.
  • Experience with cloud-based architecture which includes AWS, AWS Glue, Collibra, Microsoft Azure, Appian, data storage, Stream Sets, Athena, Airflow, RedShift and analytical reporting as part of a corporate environment.
  • Familiar w/ AzureDevOPs & GitFlow source control pattern.
  • Familiar with cloud development and how to optimize code to minimize operational costs.
  • Comfortable creating & administering CI/CD pipelines with AWS Cloud and Jenkins.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Life Sciences and Pharma domain experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial business processes and systems.
  • Experience with BI visualization products (Qlik Sense, PowerBI, Spotfire).
  • Experience working with on premise, Cloud capabilities, and software as a service (SaaS).
  • Engineering and solution delivery experience with GxP systems.
