Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

14% of the United States population suffers from kidney disease, which kills more Americans every year than breast or prostate cancer. Advances in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying kidney disease progression mean that there are novel opportunities to improve patients’ lives. Our group uses rodent models of kidney disease to characterize the biological pathways relevant to kidney disease, and to perform pre-clinical validation of novel therapeutics.

Disease Area X (DAx), a division within the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), focuses on diseases of critical human organs, including kidney, lung, and liver. We are seeking an innovative scientist to join our interdisciplinary pharmacology group in support of our efforts to progress new medicines toward the clinic. You will be involved in designing and implementing in vivo and ex vivo studies to identify new therapeutic targets, and to test and validate novel therapeutics for our priority diseases.

At Novartis, we seek to understand the molecular basis of a disease, in order to identify novel and attractive targets for therapeutic intervention, with an ultimate goal of impacting the lives of patients.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Conduct in vivo experiments with rodent models, primarily of kidney disease, including dosing novel therapeutics; pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses; clinical observations including blood and urine collection; ultrasound, telemetry, and similar non-lethal readouts; and harvesting of tissues for analysis of efficacy.

- Execute standard molecular biology techniques to evaluate therapeutic effect (such as RT-qPCR, ELISAs, and Western blots).

- Establish collaborative working relationships with scientific partners across the NIBR organization

- Implement established and novel technologies to ensure scientific excellence and impactful results

- Ability to present scientific results to project teams within DAx and in the broader NIBR community

[#video#https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ggbnzRY9z8w{#400,300#}#/video#]
