The Associate Director – Health Care Provider Engagement partners with functional leaders to manage the partners with key medical/clinical/scientific external experts. Projects may be internal or part of alliance agreements with external research and development partners. The Associate Director is expected to be knowledgeable and a champion of health care provider (HCP) policy and process within our Company, with sufficient influence and project management mastery to take on challenging assignments with minimal guidance.

The Associate Director may also manage cross-functional, cross-divisional, and/or alliance governance committees and are expected to contribute to ongoing business process improvement and talent development.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Reports to Head Research and Development (R&D) Sourcing HCP Engagement with our Company's R&D division.

Resources Managed (Budget and FTEs):

  • None expected

Organization Scope:

  • Works in a matrixed environment across all functional areas within R&D and across the enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for end-to-end management of consultant engagements (including planning, contracting, FMV, logistics, KOL/TL honoraria etc.

  • Single point of contact for external consultants (KOLs, Thought Leaders, HCPs etc.) and internal matrix teams

  • Process and system subject matter expert regarding planning, execution and issue management/resolution

  • Responsible for driving strategy by educating medical/commercial teams on process, resources and capabilities (including virtual, blogging etc.)

  • Oversee vendor relationships with contracting, logistics & virtual suppliers for each engagement

  • Demonstrated confidence and ability to guide and influence others and support multiple clients with unique needs regarding consultant engagements (advisory boards, presentations, symposia, etc.)

  • Conducts & coordinates appropriate analysis and provides recommendations to business to guide best in class KOL/TL consultant engagement interaction

  • Establish innovative solutions for ongoing process simplification

  • Responsible for Medical/Commercial engagement budget management, partnering with Finance

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in a scientific or applied discipline strongly preferred; advanced degree (e.g., MS, MBA) preferred.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • At least 5-7 years of biopharmaceutical experience with at least 5 years in Research and Development functions such as Clinical Research, Early Development, Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, etc.

  • Must have working understanding of the drug development process.

  • Must have a working understanding of and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards of HCP management and engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting, including demonstrated ability in building and managing teams, committees, taskforces, etc.

  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills; able to establish good working relationships with employees at all levels, resolve conflict and provide feedback, and to devise and implement creative solutions to problems.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; demonstrated ability to speak up appropriately and to raise issues to teams and senior management.

  • Ability to manage through complexity and ambiguity along with competing priorities.

  • Must have attention to detail and a proven track record to be able to think critically, strategically, independently and problem solve.

  • Must have high level of motivation, drive, and demonstration of our Company's leadership values.

  • Top notch interpersonal skills in difficult situations.

  • Driver of change and innovation.

  • Ability to work seamlessly with all levels of personnel.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge of cultural differences with experience in multi-country, multi-cultural environments and demonstrated success with cross-geographically based cultural collaborations.

  • Experience leading the work of outsource partners and HCPs strongly preferred.
