Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled synthetic chemist to join Boston Discovery Chemistry as a postdoctoral fellow. The postdoc fellow will be responsible for developing and applying new methods toward the synthesis of biological probes, heterobifunctional degraders, and other tools molecules of relevance to chemical biology. This role will rely heavily on the use of high-throughput experimentation (HTE) and will collaborate with the HTE, Chemical Biology, and Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD) groups in Kenilworth, including travel where appropriate. The successful fellow must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration, and will be expected to deliver high-quality peer-reviewed publications and present externally at chemistry conferences.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the invention and optimization of new methods for the preparation of tool molecules of relevance to chemical biology
  • Learn and apply state-of-the-art enabling technologies, specifically HTE
  • Disciplined decision making, strategic thinking, and creative problem solving
  • Network with colleagues and build effective working relationships with adjacent functional areas, including HTE, Chemical Biology, TPD, analytical research, and modeling/informatics
  • Present ideas and results both internally (our company) and externally (conferences)

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidates must currently hold a PhD in chemistry or a related discipline OR will receive a PhD by Fall 2022.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience of all techniques associated with modern organic synthetic chemistry, including the synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical compounds on small (milligram) and medium (gram) scale
  • Proven ability to complete research projects, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to independently design experiments, interpret data, and incorporate data into new designs leading to successful experimental outcomes
  • Functions well within multidisciplinary teams, and possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in the field of catalysis and reaction optimization
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning and adopting new technologies and tools
  • Anticipates the needs for contingencies, and plans alternative strategies as a means of risk management
  • Conceptualization of new ideas and project directions
  • Additionally, technical knowledge in chemical biology, specifically protein degradation, would be beneficial
