The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies and transforming response and durability rates for cancer patients. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

Position Summary:

The Stromal Biology group within the TME TRC (Redwood City, CA) is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Associate Scientist level candidate to aid in the advancement of therapeutic targets in drug discovery and early development. The candidate will design and execute studies to validate target biology, characterize drug candidates (large and small), and explore combinatorial therapeutic strategies. The candidate will be expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues across functional groups and have excellent communication skills. Strong technical skills with a background in stromal biology and/or immunology is desired.

Position Responsibilities:

In the role as a Senior Associate Scientist within the TME TRC Stromal Biology group, the ideal candidate:

• Designs and executes preclinical experiments from in vitro systems and treated tumor samples to support drug discovery

• Contributes to exploratory target identification and validation of novel targets

• Reads literature to identify targets of interest and assays that model stromal activities in the tumor microenvironment

Experience =

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience

OR

• Master’s Degree with 2+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience with primary cell culture and cellular and biochemical assays

• Experience with multi-parameter flow cytometry (FACS) and data analysis software

• Direct experience in modeling fibroblast or endothelial cell biology in vitro

• Industry experience in oncology drug discovery or translational research is a plus

• Able to interpret and summarize scientific data in a clear and concise manner

• Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and innovative research environment

• Flexibility and interest in learning new techniques and skills in accordance with research program needs

The qualified candidate will bring an enthusiasm for developing new therapies and an ability to identify, optimize, and run key in vitro and ex vivo assays to understand stromal cell functions.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $79,000.00 – $110,000.00, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
