Overview

We seek an enthusiastic, creative and collaborative computational researcher with strong expertise in developing and applying cutting edge machine learning methods to high-dimensional perturbation and patient profiling datasets for discovering and developing next-generation cellular and immune therapies for oncology. The successful applicant is expected to play a key role in designing and implementing innovative predictive modeling strategies across a variety of multi-modal and single cell genomic profiles from disease models and translational tissue samples to help develop next generation cellular therapies that are engineered to achieve high degree of therapeutic success in heme and solid tumors.

The candidate will work in a computational research group within a global IPS organization and alongside Immuno- Oncology and Cellular Therapy Thematic Research Center (IO/CT TRC) colleagues in Seattle to optimize engineering of cell therapies, identify molecular mechanisms to improve efficacy, and reduce potential toxicities.

Responsibilities

Working in collaboration with computational, biological and clinical scientists across the Bristol Myers Squibb IPS, and IO/CT organizations, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop integrative analysis strategies for high content, high-throughput cell imaging and molecular profiling data sets including single cell RNA/ATAC/CITE-Seq, and perturbation screens leveraging CRISPR/ZFN based technologies to characterize complex milieu of immune cellular models
  • Develop ML-based representations of functional genomic screening outputs mapped to patient profiling datasets to identify causal drivers of specific cell states
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to design perturbation experiments using appropriate screening platforms and engage with broad discovery teams to translate computational insights into therapeutic concepts
  • Participate in authorship of scientific reports in static and interactive formats, and present methods and conclusions to publishable standards

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or related fields with 10+ years of academic / industry experience.
  • OR Master's Degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or related fields with 8+ years of academic / industry experience.
  • OR PhD in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or related fields with 6+ years of academic / industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree and/or post-doctoral experience in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or related fields with a strong publication record
  • Demonstrated ability to derive insights from: latent representations of high-dimensional data using self-supervised learning based approaches such as variational auto-encoders; predictions from high throughput perturbational datasets using generative methods; probabilistic modeling incorporating causal graphs.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and infer molecular mechanisms from bulk and single cell NGS data (e.g., RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CRISPR screening, immune sequencing)
  • Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming and data manipulation using middle-level languages or Python/R, contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools, collaborative development skills using readable, reproducible, efficient code and version control systems (e.g. Git), familiarity with Unix shell and use of virtualized working environments (e.g. Docker)
  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud computing services (e.g. AWS)
  • Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative nature and flexibility across multiple research domains
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of a global analytical research team in a fast-paced environment
