The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies and transforming response and durability rates for cancer patients. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Scientist to join the Cancer Biology research team within the Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center at Bristol Myers Squibb in Redwood City, CA. The qualified candidate will aid in the advancement of early-stage therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor genetics and immuno-biology. The Cancer Biology team is composed of experts in tumor-intrinsic biology, functional genomics, and immune-oncology who develop therapies that leverage the interplay between the host and tumor. Our mission is to provide transformative therapeutics to cancer patients that improve response rates and durability to this challenging disease.
Position Responsibilities:
In the role as a Scientist within the TME TRC Cancer Biology team, the ideal candidate:
Collaborates with colleagues in the oncology, immuno-oncology, in vivo pharmacology, and medicinal chemistry groups to advance preclinical drug development programs from target identification through lead optimization
Designs and executes experiments by adapting standard methods and applying breadth of knowledge and prior work experience
Performs low-throughput assays using experimental small molecules and/or biologics to determine mechanism of action
Makes decisions that impact entire project team
Contributes to the improvement and development of new approaches
May represent project team or sub-team by presenting work in multidisciplinary meetings
Experience =
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
5+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Or
Master’s Degree
3+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Or
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
No experience necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
Strongly prefer Ph.D. with 0-3 years postgraduate experience, M.S. with 3-5+ years OR B.S. with 5-8+ years of experience in cancer biology or cellular and molecular biology. Industrial experience and/or scientific knowledge of immunology/immuno-oncology is preferred.
Required technical expertise:
- Cell culture: cancer cell line propagation and qualification, BSL2+ and lentiviral production/transduction
- mRNA analysis: RNA purification/qualification, cDNA synthesis, Taqman qPCR
- Protein characterization: western blotting, ELISA
- Molecular biology: gene synthesis (outsourced) and electroporation/transfection, PCR, primer design, amplicon production and submission for Sanger sequencing
- CRISPR/Cas9/sgRNA: design and production of stable knock-out cell lines using electroporation or lentiviral transduction.
- Computation: proficiency in Microsoft Office, Prism and Flowjo for data analysis and figure generation
Preferred technical expertise:
- Primary cells: isolation, propagation, and phenotyping of immune cells from mouse or human
- Flow: design and use of multicolor panels for analysis
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $97,000.00 – $135,300.00, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
